I love buttons!
There’s something fascinating about collecting old buttons.
And like most kids, I spent many an hour playing with both my mum’s and my grandmother’s button tins when I was young.
It’s no wonder then that I still love to collect buttons and use them in my creative projects.
I know I’m not alone. . .
Crafters are almost like a secret society of button collectors.
One can never have too many buttons!
Part of the joy of thrifting for me is to seek out vintage buttons.
I wonder who owned them… what clothing did they come off…
And did the owner of the button tin like to sift through and admire the buttons or was it pure necessity of their era?
The past few days I’ve been making button cards.
They are for a few new projects I have up my sleeve and will share with you soon.
I designed this vintage look button card and had such fun with it that I thought you may like to have it too.

I printed my graphics on 100 gram matt photo paper.
The photo paper was then adhered to a piece of card using Mod Podge and a squeegee…. to make sure I got all the air bubbles out.
When it was dry, I cut out the cards and sewed my buttons on.
If you’d prefer a pretty back on your button card you could mount the photo paper onto a piece of scrapbooking paper instead.
Happy crafting

Oh, I LUV your button cards. I have a bunch of buttons I need to do something with. They’re not something I usually create with, but, I can’t pass them up when I see them.

So cute and thanks for the share. I collected button for projects and to use on my children’s clothes. I would clip button from clothes before they hit the rag bin. My ex-mother-in-law gifted me her entire collection 2 years ago and the antique apothecary jars she stored them in. She is 85 and collected them all her life, and still going strong,. I think she wanted to make sure someone who loves her button would get them! I have several large to totes of jars and jars of buttons, plus cards filled with them too. I want to display several of the special ones, so your card will come in handy! After searching for months for the perfect shelf to buy, I may have to build he perfect shelf or cabinet to display them all!

I love collecting buttons although I love your idea I keep all my buttons in glass jars, colour by colour, on my sewing table where I can see them constantly. I too played with Mum’s buttons and Nana’s and it is something I have passed to my granddaughters who just love to line them all up in size and colour – great pastime!!!!

My mother had a button box which fascinated me as a child. I used to spend hours sorting them all out. I think it was thrown out when she became unwell. What a shame there were some lovely buttons in it.

Nice that you have fond memories of the button box Elise. Sometimes things get disposed of at a time when we don’t yet realise how important those memories are to us.
