Over the years I’ve discussed creativity and inspiration many time here on my blog.
Especially the role inspiration plays in fuelling your creativity. . .
whether that be in an artistic sense or as a DIY’er.
Things have changed in recent years. . .
Gone are the days of mood boards and inspiration journals where we kept magazine clippings, paint and fabric swatches and our secret ideas.
Most people with a desire to collect inspirational ideas now frequent places like Pinterest, where they can store a virtual world of ideas, photos and tutorials.
Like everyone else I love Pinterest and I pin often.
You can see my boards HERE and can even follow along if you have a Pinterest account.
But one thing that alarms me about Pinterest is where pins have originated from.
Early in my experiences with Pinterest I was guilty of pinning stunning photos from other Pinners without checking the source of their photos. I really just loved looking at the photos and didn’t really consider visiting the source.
Then I started to discover a whole new world of inspiration and found that by visiting the original source of a photo I liked, I would often find other inspiring material on the blog or website and I could then stalk follow them to their sources of inspiration on other lovely blogs.
So that’s what I now do, BUT many, many people don’t and they pin from Tumbler and sites that have done Pinterest round-ups with no link back to the original source. Sadly, no credit is given to the owner of the images.
I’m going to share with you another way to source inspiration and it’s perfect because you’ll know you are clipping photos from the original source.
As a DIY’er and keen gardener I’m an avid fan of Hometalk.
Not only is Hometalk the largest home and garden hub on the web, it allows you to make inspiration boards and clip images right there from their immense file collection.
The clips in your boards link directly back to the creator of the project or tutorial.
This is where you’ll find my Boards on Hometalk… I can highly recommend popping over and seeing what Hometalk have to offer.
…. now if I could just stop collecting gorgeous pictures I might actually get around to making something!!
Love this site already, so glad you posted information, I joined this morning. Am a huge fan of Pinterest, so much inspiration xx
I had to giggle because I am very guilty of spending far too much time on the Web looking at what other folk have done – but in my defence I do find it inspiring and I’ve found many wonderful sites that I now follow.
I have avoided Pinterest, as I know I would be on there all the time and would never get any crafting done – I am tempted by this new one though.
