Is there anything more romantic than a sweet cottage garden?
I love their charming informal style dripping with flowers and a heady scent. Add in the gentle humming of busy bees and you have an idyllic setting to enjoy peace and tranquillity.
I spent time in my own cottage garden this month to seek the inspiration for the July kit for the Handmade Club.
Along with the pretty papers and lots of garden-themed embellishments, I also included two sets of card printables in this kit.
Both card sets have three layers. They are perfect for a square card and ready for you to simply print, cut out the panels and decorate.
Thank you for pinning this image.
There’s a brief tutorial below for making these super easy cards…
as well as some affiliate links to a couple of the products I used.
For the first card, I kept it to a limited colour palette of pretty pastel blues and mauve.
I’m not big on lots of distressing but did want a soft blush of aging around the edges of each of the three panels, so I used my sponge dauber and Kaisercraft ink pad to lightly distress the outer edges.
To give the layers more volume and a shabby cottage look, I used a paper edge distresser to rough them up a bit.
Next, I used my sewing machine to stitch around the perimeter of each of the panels. Then all that was left to do was adhere each of the layers to the card and embellish. I used lace off-cuts, ribbon, a few sequins, and some small flowers.
TIP: I used my blending chalk set to lightly blush my cream paper flowers with mauve chalk, so they tied in more with my colour palette.
The second card has two basic square layers and a printable quote tag and a postcard.
I also added the ‘grow’ ticket from the kit embellishments to balance the layout.
I followed the same steps used for the first card with distressing, sewing and assembling, plus I added some soft blue flowers, raffia, and a big bow.
These cards really are quite simple and quick and easy to make.
This is just one idea for using this month’s ‘A Cottage Garden’ kit. I will be back next time with a few more project ideas.
