Hellooo, Shabby Art friends!
I’m Sheila from Plum Doodles, where I offer a “doodle of fun, faith, and furniture.” I love to rescue old out-dated décor and update it with a little paint, a little embellishment, and sometimes even a total rethink and repurpose.
So, let’s get started on a little update/repurpose project. This little picnic basket was sad and dusty, like most things I find in thrift stores and yard sales. To brighten it up a bit, I painted the top white and added a quill pen graphic from Graphics Fairy, using Doodle Magic transfer medium. I added the number 210 in remembrance of my favourite Bible verse, which is Ephesians 2:10.
For a little depth, I glazed the top with a dark taupe-y glaze.
A clear top coat to protect it, and then it’s time to work on the inside. The basket had an elastic strip on the inside of the lid, the perfect place to add a calendar, notepad, and pen.
This mini picnic basket is a great size to store your favourite stationery supplies. And your secret chocolate stash. If you like that sort of thing…. To download pdf files for the notecards, click here: 4×6 Chevron Thanks and 4×6 Chevron Flower. Two cards will print per page.
I have no idea what the original purpose was of this mini picnic basket. It’s much too small to use for a picnic lunch, unless you’re only going to feed the ants. What would you have used it for?
Kerryanne, thank you so much for having me over- it has been fun!
Shabby Art-sters, I hope you’ll come by and see me at my place. I gladly welcome new friends. 🙂

We carried these ‘baskets’ as purses in the late 1960’s and 70’s. Many of them had painted or decoupaged lids. Most of them were lined with coordinating fabric with a mirror adhered to the inside of the lid. I recently saw one at a thrift store; I should have snatched it up!
Everything old is new again!
