On Friday my baby, Miss Aimee, turned 13 – she’s now officially a teenager!!
The great coming of age actually occurred last night when we embarked on the customary 13th birthday sleepover. Throughout the day we prepared for what looked like an Arabian nights gala; mattresses luxuriously placed under a canopy of 100’s of twinkling fairy lights and floating balloons.
The party girls arrived late in the afternoon and the festivities began. Thus ensured an evening of laughter, hilarity and mirth, as only a group of 13 year old girls can truly do justice.
A somewhat grouchier mum requested a couple of hour’s peace at 4 am, at which time they dulled the roar to muffled whispers and fits of giggles. At least I closed my peepers for 2 hours before being rudely woken to hysterical laughter at 6 am. Hhmm…. clearly the 2 hours was taken quite literally and like crowing roosters at dawn, they let loose with the next instalment of merriment.
The last of the party revellers have whoop, whooped their way out of here and some sort of decorum has been restored. Who knew 13 year olds could giggle for 18 hours straight???
The second coming of age (a new era, not birthday) was sadly my own. After a night without sleep I feel like cr*polla. The realisation that I am no longer able to pull an all-nighter signifies I am now officially middle aged!!!!
I think it’s time for a nana nap,

One of the best things I have ever done as a parent is invest in a HUGE tent .
Then after the partying and the DVD’s when I have had enough – off they all go to the tent with torches and lollies…and they can whoop and shriek all night and I don’t hear them….
Really – its the best!

Happy Days!
Ha, I’m so relieved the sleep overs are a thing of the past for us.
Although in some ways, I quite loved those times, you knew where they were…although very exhausting. Funny how our kids Ages sort of swap different worries and problems and of course the positive side JOYS!
Loved Jodie’s idea of the tent, but around our area, we didn’t feel safe leaving all those giggling girls out in the back yard…if you lived in a rural area..Perfect.
Hope you sleep well tonight

Sounds like a big night Kerryanne. Something I have missed having only boys. I know what you mean about the all nighters for me, so hard when you wake up in the morning and cant bounce back like we used to. Ahh those were the days…..although there are other things that make me now say ahhh these are the days.Hope you catch up on your sleep.

What a fun party the girls had.
I think as we get older we cope less with broken sleep.

Oh dear…I hate being older too! Wow…how brave you are to host a all night giggle-a-thon but you know that is what your girls will love you for and will remember when they get as old as we are.
They will remember the time you let them stay up all night ( even though that wasn’t the plan) and how they had so much fun!
Happy Birthday to your teenager and happy Nanna Nap to you!
