Special friends… we all have them. Sure we all have lots of friends and acquaintances but some friends fall into that distinctive category of ‘Special Friends’. They are the friends who really ‘get’ you. Who are there both for the good times and the really crappy days of your life. They are forever friends. I have a few of these…. just a handful, but that’s all a girl really needs!! Each of them is very precious and I love them all dearly.
Today, I thought I’d share with you something beautiful one of my special friends made for me, but first I will tell you a bit about her. I’ve known her for quite a few years now and we clicked very early in our friendship – perhaps it is our whacky sense of humour, but more than likely it’s our mutual love of creativity that first formed the bond.
Although we don’t live near each other we still catch up several times a week. We know each other’s likes and dislikes, family history and funny quirky ways. We share thoughts, concerns and advice and always support each other’s dreams. She hears the song in my voice when I’m excited and reads between the lines when I’m trying to be brave. She also takes the time to send me thoughtful ‘just because’ gifts that are so perfect I would have chosen the same thing myself.
What’s really amazing about my friend is….
I’ve never held her, hugged her or for that matter, seen her in the flesh. In my mind I imagine how tall she is and what perfume she might wear. We’ve talked on the phone often enough that I now tie in her voice with her photo. Most of our communication is by email or blog, yet we each feel the comfort that only usually comes from years of childhood friendship.
Although I’ve never popped in for coffee, I’ve visited her home (virtually) many times. I’ve followed along with renovations, the tidying of the sewing room and the planting and harvesting of the backyard veggie garden. And I laughed till I nearly peed myself when her clothesline fell over… but she got her own back when mine did the exact same thing a few months later [giggle].
We are blogging friends and kindred spirits that click on so many levels. My promise to you my friend in this year of 2011 ~ I will find a way to give you a ‘bear’ hug in person. Promise!!
So here’s the beautiful giftie my friend sent me at Christmas…
the most gorgeous nautical napery that is perfect for my beach house.
Thank you my friend ~ I adore it!! One day I hope to serve you lunch at this very table in the beach house.

Hey Kerryanne! Oooooohhh!! You’ve made me blush and cry and laugh … not all at once, thankfully, cos I might have hurt myself! :0) Your lovely words make me feel very humble … and thankful that I can say … “Right back at ya!!” I’m looking forward to those in-person bear hugs! :0) And once I’d found a tissue to wipe the tears away … the runner and tablemats look EXACTLY as I imagined (and hoped!) they would on your table! Woo! Hoo! So glad you love them and hope they remind you of the crazy bear woman whenever you see them … and that they make you smile! :0) Big Squishy Bear Hugs! KRIS

Don’t you love what blgging has bought to our lives. These bloggy friendships we’ve developed are amazing and when you meet in person it’s like meeting up with a long lost friend. I’ve formed some wonderful bonds with bloggers that will last forever but I still wish I lived next door to them to pop in for a cuppa!

Hi sweetheart!
Awww… swish swish, happy tears! Kris is a keeper that’s for sure – and you are too! I am still amazed that one can form such genuine loving friendships without ever ‘meeting’ the friend in person – it’s incredible and it’s a blessing!
Lots of love to both you and Kris!!

Kerryanne, What a delightful friend Kris is and what a lovely present- it looks perfect on the table. Blogland surely has opened up some new friendships. I was lucky enough to meet several blogging ladies including 2 from Victoria last July for morning tea in the southern highlands in NSW. I drove 2 hours to get there I was so excited to be part of it. (((hugs))) Delcie

Oh they do look gorgeous in your little beach house! Kris is a very clever girl indeed and so sweet. I have hugged her AND she has stayed for sleepovers at my house and I met her in blogland too. I just live a lot closer, though it did take her 3 and a 1/4 hours to get here the other day..still closer though. I too would like to come visit you one day Kerryanne, maybe a bloggers party might be in order..hehe.
