To some she is just a forgotten piece of hardware from the Old School House.
All rusty and corroded. . . she’s a relic of the past.
Her handle is scratched, dented, tarnished and worn. . .
But I can’t help wondering how many little hands have turned
that school handle since 1881.
Ruined beyond repair this old Escutcheon Plate has been discarded.
To me she is a beauty. . .
with her chippy, yellowing paint and rusting exterior.
Once. . . more than 120 years ago,
they would have been all shiny and new
at the entrance of that school house.
In a little country town not far from here
the Old School House still retains all the charm of her ancestry. . .
minus the rusty door hardware!
They may have been discarded. . . but are not unwanted.
For now these old locks, door plates and escutcheon’s live with ME,
which just goes to show . . .
one mans trash is another mans treasure!

Kerryanne, they are charming. I love old rusty things, especially ones with a story. x
Kerryanne,
I love old charming rusty things too. I have a thing with old doors and think too about how many families have passed through those old doors for many years. I love that these things have such charm and personality. Your old school house knob is a great treasure.

I wonder how many lives turned that door knob and what became of them. Love how you re-purpose trash to treasure!
Wonderful images – a pity they can’t tell us a story x
What a treasure to find.
My Dad was a master locksmith and he would have loved to have handles a lovely piece like that – he always moaned that the new machine-made locks had no ‘soul’ or interest to them. Oh how I loved to watch him restore old locks and hand cut replacement keys…his keys always worked first time unlike many of the machine cut stuff.
I’m glad you have given this wonderful piece a home.

awesome patina on these beauties, kerryanne!
Great pieces!! I love all the age and thinking about the history.
