Hi creative friends,
Welcome back to our Craft Room Crafter of the Month!
This series is our monthly rendezvous with the creative minds that make our crafting community feel like home.
It’s the chance to draw inspiration from their artistry, take a peek behind the curtain of their creativity, and connect with the incredible members who bring life to our virtual crafting haven.
Crafter of the Month
Every month, we’ll sit down with a standout member from the Craft Room to chat about all things crafty, from what they like to make to what inspires them.
This month, I am thrilled to feature Vanessa Gonzalez , a dedicated member hailing all the way from Costa Rica.
Vanessa’s passion for crafting transcends language barriers and brings a unique flair to our vibrant community.
Embracing Diversity in Craft:
One of the most remarkable aspects of our Craft Room is the diverse group of individuals it brings together.
Vanessa, a testament to the inclusive nature of our community, effortlessly engages in group activities despite speaking a different language.
Her commitment to the craft transcends linguistic differences, proving that the language of creativity is universal.
Name: Vanessa Gonzalez
1. Name and where do you live (state/country)?
Vanessa González Cruz. I live in a rural area, San Carlos, Alajuela (is the province), Costa Rica (country)
2. How would you describe your craft style?
My style is vintage decoration (for that reason I love this page Shabby Chic) I like to create cards or decorate using paper collections that have harmony between all the elements, highlighting the die cuts, using double-sided embossed tape or foam to highlight certain items.
Scrapbooking, using bits of paper and ephemera, always with vintage decorations. Taking a card or envelope or altering a notebook with love, choosing where to place the buttons, the lace, which element will stand out, seeking harmony between colors and designs. Never repeating a pattern, giving originality to each one. With the exception of the 32 cards from the free cutout of your part of the heart envelope, which I made for my mother’s prayer group, that was an exception, I don’t like working in series, I feel like I imprison my creativity, even if I use the same collection of papers, there is always something different in each creation.
3. What type of projects do you like to make?
I decorate gift bags, decorate money envelopes, decorate notebooks for notes, garlands, tags.
Projects that are useful or decorate the spaces in my house.
4. How often do you craft?
Now that I am in the Craft Room, I try to follow the projects, but some projects are not competed in the week.
All week I work a little on each one. I also make cards to give for birthdays to my favourite people.
5. What inspires your creativity?
My sensitivity, love, joy, gratitude, observation of everything that surrounds me, nature, the seasons, the festivities that are celebrated throughout the year, also watching project tutorials, because when observing the projects of other sin the Craft Room and the sites they have, their internet channels, one learns to improve how to place lace, or ephemera.
Watching them work on the compositions, the paper techniques, the decorations, inspires me because they are all masters in their unique styles.
They also give advice to make it easier for you. For me, sitting down to do crafts is mental health, relaxation, and as you keep doing more and more, creativity is nourished.
6. What are the craft essentials you can’t live without?
I love lace and buttons, die cuts from paper collections, enamels, shiny pearls.
7. What are you currently working on?
In the projects that The Craft Room gives us and teaches us, I have also purchased on Kerryanne’s Etsy store and they are pending because Christmas projects are a priority these days.
I’m decorating envelopes to give money to family members and I’m planning to make a Christmas Bakery Gift Box these days.
I’m also counting the days until the Christmas collection and all those beautiful projects.
