Hi creative friends,
Welcome back to our Craft Room Crafter of the Month series, where we spotlight the vibrant personalities shaping our crafting community.
Each month, we follow the creative journey of one of our remarkable members, gaining insights, inspiration, and a deeper connection to our crafting community.
Crafter of the Month:
This month, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to Diane Pfennig, a cherished member who has been with us since the very beginning.
Diane’s dedication and creativity have consistently shone through, earning her a well-deserved place as one of our monthly ‘top contributors’ in the Facebook group.
Diane’s enthusiasm for crafting extends beyond her personal projects. In a delightful collaboration with Nicola Mason, she recently co-hosted a Facebook Live session within our community group.
Together, they crafted stunning doily books using our March kit, Paper Doll Whimsy.
It was such a fun live, filled with inspiration, chit chat and laughter.
I had the privilege of asking Diane some questions this week about her crafting journey, seeking insights into her process, inspiration, and tips for her fellow crafters.
- Name & where do you live?
Diane Pfennig. Northern California, USA .
- What initially inspired you to start crafting, and how did you discover your passion for it?
I loved embellishing tops with matching socks, hair bows etc. in the 90’s for our eldest daughter but put crafting aside when she got older and our 2nd came along. I returned to crafting a few years ago wanting to make some ornaments for Christmas presents and YouTube tutorials led me to paper crafting.
- How would you describe your craft style?
Shabby Chic! Lace, sparkles & pearls.
- Can you share a memorable crafting project that holds a special place in your heart and why it’s meaningful to you?
For my Mom I decoupaged her favorite pansy flowers onto an ornament and added sparkly diamanté & pearl trim with lace. It hangs next to her bed and is her favorite thing I’ve made.
- In a world full of crafting possibilities, what specific craft or technique do you find most enjoyable and why?
I love paper crafting. My dad teases me that they used to find a trail of paper bits behind me and I’ve returned to that child in me I guess! I could fussy cut a whole kit and even if I don’t have time to create a big project using all of it, I had a great time. Fussy cutting helps me destress from work and is so satisfying, plus I can do it while watching TV in the evening with my hubby.
- How has being a member of the Craft Room community at Shabby Art Boutique influenced your creative journey?
I love the community of the Craft Room! I’m a cheerleader at heart so supporting the crafters when they post a project is important to me. Plus I love admiring the creations that inspire me. Especially from the Design Team ladies!
- Are there any particular artists or crafters who have significantly influenced your style and approach to crafting?
When I found Nicola Mason, I fell in love with her shabby, lacy projects. She’s such a beautiful crafter and has an endless imagination.
- Can you share a behind-the-scenes glimpse into your creative process? What does a typical crafting session look like for you?
I work full time and dream about when I’m retired and can craft big projects. For now, I craft on Saturdays with some shabby friends I’ve connected with and we usually decide on a smaller project to work on whilst we chat. We have so much fun!
- What are your ‘can’t live without’ craft essentials?
Scissors!
- What are you currently working on?
I’m currently making a tag using Craft Room digitals of course!
