Dear little black table.
We need to talk.
We have to find a way to… get along!
I know, it’s not you…. it’s me!
It’s just that we are not a perfect match.
I’m an old fashioned apron wearing girl who likes vintage furniture that is chippy and has time worn appeal…. and is preferably white!
Sadly, you are a victim of circumstance…
(my husband is never allowed to go to IKEA on his own again)…
I’m sure your modern Swedish design and bold colour is perfect for someone else… it’s just that you don’t really fit with our vintage style décor in all shades of white.
But my husband loves you…. and a good marriage is based on compromise!
So, I propose an arrangement.
Some days you can go au naturel in all your bold modern style… preferably on those days that The-Man-Of-The-House decides to spread out his inky newspaper,
And on other days, I will shroud you in my vintage table cloths and crochet lace throws, adorn you with vintage china and vases of old fashioned, scented roses.
I think we can make that work for all of us…
And so you don’t feel like ‘a wart on a pretty girls nose’,
I’ve designed my new kitchen around you, so you can feel more at home.
Fondly,
The Lady of the House
I’ll be revealing my new kitchen tomorrow for the ‘Home for the Holidays’ tour.
It’s an open house Christmas tour of 26 fabulous bloggers homes.
Merry Christmas,

Despite black not being your colour, you have certainly made this table fit in with your décor.
Would the ‘man of the house’ notice if you gave it a quick coat of chalk paint?

Your table looks lovely decorated even if it is black, Kerryanne.
Kerrie – what a sweet post! lol I must say — you are a such a good wife! I don’t know if I could compromise with my husband as well as you did. lol I do love a darker piece in the midst of a lot of white because it “grounds” the space…but of course, my heart – like yours – is happier with chippy white. Love the way that you CAN change it out to keep both of you happy, and it looks beautiful both ways!

Kerryanne…that’s simply delightful.
Adorable post – and love the genius way you’ve chosen to make your compromise! The black table looks beautiful dolled up in your finery. 😉
Well done! A few pretty linens can just transform a place. You have set such a pertty table!
A good lesson to be learned, indeed. Unfortunately, I will need to work on that. …..someday.
