Last week I kicked off part 1 of my Christmas home tour with a peek into the red room…
A new colour for us and quite a diversion from our usual neutral, ‘all shades of white’ colour palette.
This was a request from our ‘Man-of-the-house’… and as it turns out, we all liked it!
Part 2 of my Christmas home tour wandered into our white room. This is our living zone in what is a fairly compact 2 story townhouse.
You’ll have to read this post to find out how a modern black bar table made its way into our shabby vintage white room.
That black table was the catalyst for the colour scheme in our newly renovated kitchen.
When we moved in last year, the kitchen was a sage green colour and was dated and showing its age.It was in desperate need of a make-over and refit.
Apartment kitchens are notoriously compact…. and this one was about a third of the size of my previous kitchen, so I knew I was going to have to be savvy with storage and cupboard space.
I’ll share the details of the amazing products we used and how we achieved what we set out to do in a blog post in the New Year, but right now I’d like to show you how it looks dressed up for Christmas.
To incorporate the black table into our decorating style, we decided to go with a Scandinavian black and white look.
Our home already lends itself to the Scandinavian look with timber lined ceilings, exposed beams, an internal brick wall and loft rooms.
The kitchen cupboards have been painted white to brighten and freshen up the room.
Bench tops have been painted black with a specialty product and a small chalkboard wall is not only functional, but also adds visual interest.
Due to the open plan living style, we carried the red from the lounge area into the kitchen for Christmas. It works so well with our gingerbread theme.
I think my hand painted gingerbread doll adds a fun element to the kitchen.
I made salt dough gingerbread cookies to use in my other kitchen vignettes.
The overhead cupboards do not extend right up to the ceiling, so we use this area for storage of our larger bowls and pedestal plates.
For Christmas, I added a greenery garland and snowy pine cones. A set of battery operated twinkling fairy lights add a little magic at night.
The kitchen doesn’t have an external window, but does have a large opening that looks down into our lounge area. I suspended a tree branch from our garden across the opening and hung more of my salt dough gingerbread cookies from red and white bakers twine.
Another garland of little gingerbread men hangs below the shelf on the chalkboard wall.
There are still a few small things to complete in our new kitchen, but it will be functional over the Christmas period.
With all the family home for the holidays, I’m sure we’ll all be falling over each other as we bake and prepare meals together.
Does your family tend to congregate in the kitchen too?
Thank you for touring my holiday home with me.
Merry Christmas,
Kerryanne
