For every mother there comes a time when you have to let your babies fly the nest.
It’s a bitter sweet moment.
On the one hand…. you want them to explore the world and become independent adults…your job is done!
But on the other hand… you worry that they are not yet fully capable and ready to be alone out there.
I don’t think a mother ever stops worrying about her babies… no matter how old they are!
I’ve just made this ‘snuggle bunny’ for my Princess Jess…
My first baby to leave the nest.
It’s the middle of winter here and our Princess is living in University accommodation… over 1200 kilometers away from home.
She gets a little home sick…. and is feeling the cold terribly.
This mother just wants to give her baby a big warm cuddle.
I know hot water bottles are… well, kind of old fashioned now…
but you can’t beat them for warmth.
I’ve made our Princess a snuggle bunny…. so she can have a warm hug from mum.
I used the gorgeous Tilda Polar bear fur for the body and lined the ears and feet with pink polka dot fabric.
The face is hand painted linen, which was made as a separate piece and hand sewn on with a blind stitch. This is typical of my painting style, so I know it will remind our Princess of home.
The bag has an overlapping envelope back for easy access for putting the hot water bottle in and out of the bag.
When the bottle is filled with hot water it fills the bunny’s body out and feels just like a warm bunny snuggling on your lap.
This little bunny is now on its way in a care package from home!
I’m sharing my snuggle bunny with these friends this week:

I love it! How perfect… no matter how grown up we get every once in a while we all need to feel that warm hug from mom!

Awww, how sweet! I love your bunny so beautifully painted and the warm thoughts that go with it! I miss my girls everyday and I always worry about them but they have their life to live, I have to remind myself everyday. Enjoy the free time to create all the things that make you and yours happy.

This is just way too sweet, Kerryanne! Such a precious post!

aww so sweet….now she will be able to feel more connected to her home…love the concept and details of your creation. have a lovely day
What a very sweet and cuddly idea 🙂
Oh Kerryanne, this is adorable. You really can’t beat a lovely hot water bottle to snuggle up to.
Toni xx
I still like a hot water bottle too Toni. Wheat packs are nice, but hot water bottles bring back such nice childhood memories for me.
Hope you are enjoying lovely hot summer weather.

This is so sweet, Kerryanne! My 21 year old son just got married so I imagine he wouldn’t need this anymore! lol What a sweet gift from home for your daughter. I’m pinning this!
Thanks Marty. I suspect your 21 year old son may not appreciate a fluffy bunny hot water bottle cover 😉 He’d probably like something a little more masculine, but I think they all love a little lovin’ from home when they live far away.

This is so sweet! I love coming by your blog – I always feel like I’m visiting a magical, whimsical land, far, far away.
Awww… thanks Miriam. That’s really sweet of you. I don’t know about being magical, but I’m definitely in a land far, far away. Wish it wasn’t so far between our continents… then I could fly over for Hometalk meet-ups and blogger conferences. Maybe one day 🙂
Hey Kerryanne! Aaaaaawww! What a lovely idea & what a lovely surprise it will be for Princess Jess when he arrives in the mail. It’s been icky & freezing here on top of our ‘hill’ & although I don’t have a hottie to wrap a sweet bunny around, my wheat pack is my bestest friend when I crawl into bed each night … Oh … & it’s pretty nice to snuggle with my Sweetie, too! Tee! Hee! Hee! Thanks for sharing your hot huggy bunny. :0) Bear Hugs! (which are as warm as bunny hugs!) KRIS
I always love your bear hugs Kris. I think our Princess will enjoy a warm snuggle bunny on her lap while she studies.
Stay warm up on your mountain.
Hugs ~ Kerryanne
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous and your Jess is going to love it-warmth for the body and for the heart. A little bit pretty for my Nick at Uni though 🙂 He has a flannel raggy quilt which he wraps himself up in. Nothing like those ‘home’ comforts. It’s our way of keeping the heart strings tied. Once a mother, always a mother. xo
So Adorable. What a great idea. I love your site and always look forward to your emails.
terribly sweet gift, kerryanne! love your painted face!
