Hello friends,
I’ve been working on some mixed media prints for my new eBook…
And enjoying creative time in my craft room.
I love the creative process of working with mixed media and thought maybe you’d like to see a glimpse of what I’ve been up to.
No rules, no plans… just rip, paste, cut and play.
It’s a great way to use up pretty paper scraps too.
For my latest projects I used a mix of 8”x 8” and 8” x 10” MDF boards as the substrate.
I begin by layering pieces of pretty scrapbooking papers onto the base.
Then I build the layers with paint, stamping and stenciling.
For this one I knew I wanted to use a vintage image of a shoe, so I kept the background fairly soft and neutral.
When I was happy with the background I adhered the shoe.
See how it pops in the foreground.
I have enough room on the right side to add stamped letters or typewriter words.
I always photograph the piece at this stage, so I have the option to use this base for digital projects too.
A sweet quote finishes this one off.
See how easy it is to pull together. I think the relaxing aspect of this project is the freedom to simply create without planning, measuring or following a pattern.
I have quite a few art pieces already completed in the series and I hope to have them in my shop in the coming days.
I hope I’ve inspired you to give this art form a go if you haven’t already tried it before.
Happy crafting ~ Kerryanne
