One of the things I like to do in the week between Christmas and New Year is to slow the pace down and relax a little. It’s also the perfect time to reflect on the year that was and prepare for a fresh start with the new year ahead.
This time last year I knew I was in for a really BIG year in 2019.
We were in the process of buying a home with a short exchange period, so the New Year was going to be filled with packing, moving, renovating and unpacking…. and that is exactly how we spent the first 3 months of the year.
Throughout the year, renovations continued and wedding preparations for our daughter began. Throw in some travel and house guests and all in all it was a CRAZY and BUSY year, but we achieved a lot.
Best of 2019
It still surprises me that I managed to also spend time in the craft room each week… and that is where I’m starting my ‘Best of’ posts for 2019.
#1 – A New Craft Room
The craft room was one of the first rooms completed in the renovation of our new property and that was essential so I could unpack and keep running Shabby Art Boutique.
You can read all about how I designed the new craft room HERE.
#2 – Slow Sewing A Handmade Heart
Some quality ‘ME’ time and a slow sewing project resulted in a pretty handmade heart.
Find out how I made this slow sewing handmade heart HERE.
#3 Printable Vintage Card
In late April, this free vintage printable was just in time to create a beautiful shabby and vintage style Mother’s Day card.
You can download the printable and see the tutorial for the Mother’s Day card HERE.
#4 – A Simple Pin Cushion
A discarded tin can and some creative thinking came together for this project.
Here’s how I made this simple pin cushion.
#5 – Embroidery Hoop with Free Printable
A new decorative piece for my own craft room inspired the coming together of a re-purposed embroidery hoop and a free printable project.
You can see the tutorial and download the free printable HERE.
#6 – A Beautifully Blushed Avocado Dyed Pincushion Tutorial
This project utilised some gorgeous fabrics created by dyeing with avocado.
Find out how to use this avocado dye technique and create this vintage layered pincushion HERE.
#7 – Fabric Teacup & Coffee Mug Coasters
I raided my fabric stash for some spring like florals to make these pretty teacup and coffee mug coasters.
Find out how to make this super quick and easy project HERE.
#8 – Decorative Pin Toppers
This DIY for making decorative pin toppers for your sewing pins will add a wonderful touch of whimsy to your pincushions and sewing room.
Find out how to make decorative pin toppers HERE.
#9 – Fall Farmhouse Banner
In August I went all out with a shabby, farmhouse theme for fall.
This was a kit from my Handmade Club and it proved to be incredibly popular…. plus, I loved creating with the softer pastel fall palette.
Here’s the tutorial on how I made the shabby farmhouse themed fall banner.
#10 – Maker’s Christmas Wreath
As always, I rounded the year off with Christmas projects and by far the top project for Christmas 2019 was the Maker’s Christmas Wreath for craft and sewing rooms.
The full tutorial and free printables for the Maker’s Christmas Wreath are HERE.
All in all, it turned out to be a year filled with many shabby and vintage themed projects in the Shabby Art Boutique craft room.
With no major life changes or events planned as yet for 2020, I’m looking forward to what I hope will be a simpler, more relaxed year…. with perhaps more time to focus on new creative projects!
Happy New Year shabbilicious friends!

You have had ONE SUPER BUSY year! Wow. You are superwoman! I so so love your craftroom and all of the darling things that adorn it. I think I’ve downloaded and saved most of your printables and tutorials! I’ve made a few and want to make more. Especially love that hoop art and I’m pretty sure I downloaded it. I have so many things I’d like to make for 2020 too.. mostly from other peoples’ ideas and tutorials.. but from that, sometimes there comes something a little original made from my own head! I hope 2020 is a great year for you and your family. Marilyn
