Sometimes my projects don’t turn out they way they are meant to.
That’s not to say I don’t like them… on the contrary,
It’s more about my inability to follow someone else’s instructions without adding my own take on things.
Last week I made this apron.
I LOVE it.
It’s so totally ME…. but my original idea didn’t start quite like this.
I usually wear full aprons, but I decided I needed a half apron.
I liked this free pattern by Jona at Stop Staring and Start Sewing (free PDF).
It was the perfect design for a small piece of linen I had and my new favourite Tilda fabric.
But then I added some more fabric… and the edging of a crochet doily….
Next came some fabric patches… an embroidered doily….
buttons… a fabric tape measure…
It was at about that point that I put away the pattern instructions and just winged it!
I’m loving the new Happiness is Homemade collection of fabrics from Tilda. They are so soft and feminine with a lovely vintage feel.
I’m currently using these fabrics on some Christmas projects and was able to use some leftovers for the apron.
I used Sofia White (480737) for the apron ties and lower trim, Rough Stripe Light Green (480737) for the lower layer of the trim and Sofia Light Green (480731) and Mini Star Light Green (480739) for the patches on the apron. These are all available in my Tilda Boutique on the Happiness is Homemade page. The buttons are from Tilda too.
Afterwards I felt a bit naughty… kind of like colouring outside the lines,
but I’m very happy with my new half apron and it is full of things I love.
Happy crafting
♥

Beautiful apron Kerryanne and you have totally made it your own – fabulous. Mind you, I wouldn’t want to use anything this pretty in case it got spoilt LOL

Gorgeous Kerryanne. I love that you made this unique to you. Super sweet. Love it.

Such a beautiful apron!!!!!
I just love your apron, Kerryanne. It is beautiful.
I love it, sweets!! I love aprons and wear one but they have to be full aprons as I’m such a slob when it comes to spilling on my top. This has been the bane of “full-chested” women from the beginning of time. Food just doesn’t have much of a chance falling to my lap as I told hubs the other day. It never makes it past my bosom! But the apron is truly darling!!!

Kerryanne – your apron is beautiful. And it only gets better with a free pattern.

That is so beautiful! You did a lovely job.
Hi !!
It is so refreshing to see and read of a woman talking about making an Apron. My goodness, I love it !!
Being that I am 64 1/2 years old, I have been told that I am way to Old Fashioned whenever I mention an apron or even wear one.
Good for you to post your pictures of your lovely apron. I think I will now get my apron out of the closet and start to wear it once again.

Stunningly beautiful! I wouldn’t want to wear it for fear of getting it dirty. Love the fabrics!
Hugs …
hi…soooo nice and wonderful…so i have to search in my fabrics…i will sew a apron like yours…so lovely, nico
Where can I get those cute little doilies?! LOVE it!
Maria
Maria, I cut up larger vintage doilies to get the smaller doily parts. 🙂
Sometimes, coloring outside the lines leads to a better and more interesting composition! Gorgeous! I wish my sewing talents were up to the task, I would make one myself!
beautiful finish; I can’t follow a pattern either, always tweaking to make it my own creation.
LOVE IT!
Gorgeous apron….I have a couple…guess I will have to get them out and use them…yup I bet they would work for me as well…with the bosom issue. lol
Maybe I’m a messy cook and crafter Beaj, but I need the aprons to keep my clothes clean. I wouldn’t be without one these days and I like them to be pretty too. The cross over back apron certainly allows for an ample bossom 😉
