Having just recently rediscovered my love of reading, I’ve set myself a goal of reading at least one book per month throughout 2016.
On the first Wednesday of each month I share one or more books here on my blog for ‘Book of the Month’.
So… I did read several books this month; a novel, a business eBook and this book that I want to share with you today. It’s not a new to me book, but I did rediscover it this month.

Romantic Home Sewing ….also sold as ‘Home Made Vintage’ is a beautiful sewing book by Christina Strutt.
You may know of Christina from her company Cabbages & Roses. It’s a quintessential British brand selling fashion, fabrics and homewares.
I purchased this book from Book Depository some time ago and have made many of the fabulous projects in it over the years. I refer back to it occasionally and that’s exactly how I came to rediscover it in my bookshelf a couple of weeks ago. I knew that many of you would appreciate this book too.
Christina’s fabrics have such a timeless retro feel to them and are perfect for the romantic vintage and cottage style sewing projects she has included in this book.
The 30 simple to sew projects are perfect for transforming every room of your home into a romantic retreat.
Christina has used beautiful vintage style fabrics and the most basic of sewing skills to produce the kind of projects that add that lovely element of femininity and a handmade elegance. I think they are very romantic.
The charming projects highlighted in this delightful illustrated book include crisp linen chair covers, a chic fabric headboard, pretty flower aprons, dreamy voile bed curtains, and soothing scented herbal pillows.
The instructions are all illustrated and easy to follow and perfect for a beginner sewer.
I know that I’ve made several of the projects in this book to give as gifts and others were a starting point for projects that I developed further… like the bags and hot water bottle cover.
If you desire a home filled with hand-finished, personal objects, let Christina Strutt be your guide. The result will be an oasis of comfort, whimsy, and true romanticism. This is a great book for the craft room bookshelf!
I use and recommend Book Depository for buying books online. They offer free worldwide shipping and amazing service, so I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them. This is why I joined their affiliate team a few years ago. I earn a very small percentage of sales resulting from a click through from my website, so I thank you if you have clicked over. To be honest, I spend far more at Book Depository than I’ll ever earn in affiliate sales, but I’m happy to recommend a company that I know offers great service and is completely trustworthy.
What books did you read this month?

I have a book wish list too Daniela. My problem seems to be the list grows faster than my ability to find enough time to read, buy at least I’m now making a conscious attempt to make time each month and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
Hope you have a fabulous weekend Dany xx
I found it in my public library system, so I’ll give it a look. I don’t sew too much for my home but I love inspiration and who knows – I might change my mind! Thanks Kerryanne!
The book has quite a few different things in it Elaine; from home decor to personal items and gift giving. I think you’ll enjoy an inspiring read. 🙂
Usually if I want new curtains or table runner, pillow covers,i.e. will go into my sewing room to dig in my stash first, see what I have.
Since we are few miles west of town to buy sewing goodies don’t run to store right away. If it’s a project haven’t tackled before I’ll use whatever I have handy.. My poor little sewing room is quite small, much smaller than many people have for walk in closet, no kidding.
Last year bought myself brand new Brother sewing machine but room has been such a disgusting mess for so long could hardly get into room. Am working on that as Spring is time I love to make new curtains and whatever else sparks my whims for season.
I’m not a planner, I go strictly on impulse of moment and things seem to turn out so much better when I do. I so admire people who are planners, just not me, I get cranky and nothing turns out one bit as I’d pictured in my mind.
I noticed you got your delicious aqua clock in this post with your scrumptious patchwork pillow.
Wonder why it is an old shabby clock fits in so well with any vignette.
I will look for this book at our library, hope they have it. Enjoy rest of week and upcoming weekend.
We all craft differently Jane. Some people need a neat space to create, while others thrive on spontaneity and creative clutter. There’s no right or wrong way…. just what works best for you 🙂
Yes, the new aqua clock is working the room – lol. You know me… I move things around on an almost daily basis. It drives my poor hubby crazy. Have a great weekend sweets xx
A book full of inspiration and a perfect item to have on your crafting shelf.
I will have a look out for this.
Thank you for the recommendation.
Toni xx
I have to admit this is one of those books that I’ve gone back to time and time again over the years Toni. Some styles are just timeless!!
Have a great weekend my friend xx
I ordered this book today on Amazon. Can’t wait to read it over and over and start some new projects! Thanks for the recommendation. 🙂
Kerryanne, I am so enjoying Romantic Home Sewing, just as you thought! I recently took apart a comforter which probably dated from the 40s, if not earlier. Now I have so many ideas for using a bit of it. Thanks for sharing.
