The scorching mid 40 temperatures of last week have finally subsided putting and end to Victoria’s worse heatwave in more than a century. The extreme heat sparked rail disruptions, power outages, bush fires and an increase in heat related illnesses and deaths. The more respectable summer temperatures of this week are such a relief and much appreciated by all.
Our household struggled through two separate power outages which left us without cooling or refrigeration for long periods of time.
This was taken on an evening when we had 45 degree heat and no power. We had hosed her down in the bath several times but because it was so hot she was dry within minutes. Miss Aimee kept her cool throughout the evening with wet washes. The rest of us sucked on the rapidly defrosting icy poles from our freezer and sprayed ourselves with water bottles.
In the midst of this heatwave my husband lost an elderly member of his family. Although her death is suspected to be heat related we can’t be sure until an autopsy is completed. At 78, it may just have been her time and I would much prefer this to be the case than to think of her perishing in extreme heat.
This week promises to be better already. Not only is the weather more bearable but most mums let out a collective sigh of relief when our children returned to school yesterday for the 2009 school year.
I have rediscovered my creativity in recent weeks and am delighted to be using my makeshift studio. My limitations mean I can only sit and paint for short periods but i am enjoying immensely the opportunity to paint whatever inspires me. I have quite a few projects on the go so that I can move between them. I’m dabbling in mixed media which has taken me out of my comfort zone and is more unstructured and freeing.
This is a sneak peak at one of several paintings I have done featuring angels. This is just a small snippet of the canvas.
I’ll share photos of my finished works when I can get an ‘assistant’ to help me with the photos.
Stay cool my friends,
Hugs ~ Kerryanne
Yes yay cooler weather….
We woke shrouded ina misty cloud that hung around til noon.

My chooks were soooo happy fossicking and rummaging the wet eart!

I still need to find a creative niche…I just have no crafting mojo at moment!!
My Baby boy started school yesterday and he loves it…Has’nt any Boys to play with but hung out with the little girl who lives near us…Only 6 boys in the class so hope one of them and heclick!
I feel alittle sad today more so than yesterday…
Well novel is over….Enjoy the cooler warm weather,Take care
Oh poor Gypsy! I love the new sneek peek – her eyes are beautiful.
Kerryanne, I am so glad to hear that some relief has come your way heat wise! I cannot imagine! And poor little Gypsy…glad to hear you guys were so attentive with her 😉
So sorry to hear about the loss in your family. An elderly man died here in the states due to his heat being turned off. He was 93 and I guess the house got down to 36 degrees Fahrenheit…I am not sure what that is in Celsius but it is very cold here. 32 is freezing.
I am delighted to hear that your a making attempts at painting! Can’t wait to see more of what you do. The little angel is soooo cute! Will keep praying for you dear!
Hi Kerryanne I too amhappy that the extreme temperatures have gone.
great to see you back into your painting, must feel good to be back at it

Hey Kerryanne! SHE’S BACK!! So exciting to start seeing some new gorgeous artwork coming from your paintbrush! YAY! Glad you have cooler temps – it’s been very mild here, overcase, mid 20’s and showery/misty – good sewing weather, so that’s where I’m off to! Poory Gypsy! I remember a roadtrip we took as a family to Melbourne one Christmas – we had to keep spraying our long-haired Chuahua with water bottles to keep him cool – us too! Car wasn’t air conditioned then!! Sorry for Mark’s loss – hope he has lots of fond memories to reflect on. Catch up soon! Bear Hugs! KRIS
Forgot to say your angel looks … angelic! Hmmm … self portrait??! Tee! Hee! Hee! BH! KRIS
Yes thank goodness for the cooler weather! Poor Gypsy, I didn’t think of a damp cloth or towel for Guss, you can apparantely buy special pet mats you put in the freezer for a few hours, I thought one for me would be more appropriate!
Kerryanne I’m so glad you’ll be able to start painting again, your Angel is very sweet, I’m looking forward to many more sneak previews
I love what I have seen of your painting so far, her eyes are so beautiful! We spent the afternoon at the pool to keep cool but nothing like your temperatures. I am frantically battling that garage because half of it is going to be my studio to sew, paint, create whatever, so good motivation. How about the UK, they are the other extreme of your heat! Hiya Kerryanne,
I am so glad that the tempreture has dropped down your way. We are expecting to get Fri/Sat/Sunday of over 40 degrees, so I think we have escaped the worst of it with only 3 days.
So glad to hear that you are back painting again, your angel is just so beautiful & delicate.

Oh poor Gypsy!!
Your painting looks wonderful, her eyes are just gorgeous!!! Must be something in the creative air at the moment. Glad to see you have your mobile studio up and running ( unlike your good self).
Can’t wait to see more!!
Can you believe though that on the other side of the world London was covered in snow….I know it would have been a nightmare but wouldn’t have looked magical!!

Thank goodness the heat has subsided. Gypsy looks miserable poor little girl – I can only imagine how you all felt going through this. So sorry to hear about your family member.
I’m sending some cool winter thoughts your way.
