I think this smile says it all – everyone enjoyed Christmas in the English household.
The look on Princess Jess’ face when she received unexpected tickets to Pink’s concert was priceless.
…but for me there was a special gift!!
Not a tangible gift…although of course I did get plenty of those and I am most appreciative for those gifts…this was an even better gift.
Before I reveal this special gift I should tell you that I was feeling a bit scrooge like on Boxing Day. Don’t get me wrong…I love Christmas and usually throw myself into it on a par with ‘Clark Griswold’, but this year it was kind of overshadowed by my health woes and my inability to get out of bed and do the usual family Christmas activities.
Looking around on Boxing Day I felt like Christmas was over. The tree looked sad, there were presents and wrappings scattered everywhere. The previous day I had overstuffed on Christmas trimmings like ham, turkey and plum pudding. I was a little disappointed that Christmas was over and I felt I hadn’t really got into it.
Then the Christmas Miracle!!
Okay…I suppose it is not officially a Christmas Miracle but for me it sure felt like one and made me re-evaluate my ‘scroogness’.
For the past six months a friend has battled cancer and after major surgery and a nasty course of chemo was told back in October that the tumour was back and there was nothing else they could do for her. Her prognosis was very grim and she has spent the last few months planning her funeral and goodbyes. Then on Christmas eve, her specialist told her that the latest CT scan had revealed that the tumour had suddenly disappeared. TRUE. Just like that it is gone.
So I’d like to think of it as some kind of
Christmas Miracle.
For me, I feel blessed that a friend has more time here with us. It also made me re-evaluate my disappointment at not feeling my usual amount of Christmas cheer. How selfish of me to be worrying about not being able to join in certain festivities. There is SO much more to be grateful for.
I think with New Years Eve only days away, I should take the time to make a ‘Grateful List’ and a wish list for 2009. Sometimes we get so absorbed in the little stuff that we fail to see the really important things.

I can understand this kind of Miracle completely…I have my Husband by my side because of such a Miracle!
I had a gratitude diary in 2007,Each and everyday I wrote something I was greatful for….Thus somedays it was simply…
“to be going to bed after a long and gruelling day”
But neverless It rerally helped my perspective.
We do have much to be thankful for.
