I was hoping today to show you some before and after shots of my exciting thrift shop transformations, but weekend events have prevented that. . .
. . . and this is why
yep, RAIN and plenty of it.
In fact, it was a deluge of rain and thunderstorms over a 24 hour period from Saturday night into Sunday. The electrical storms late on Saturday evening were quite spectacular. These later developed into very noisy thunderstorms that brought with them torrential rain. It was almost as if the clouds decided they were too lazy to rain and just opened a trap door and dumped the whole lot in one go. . . swooooooooosh!!!
We received over 10 cm (4 inches) in a very short period. No amount of drainage, gutters or down pipes can cope with that, so the inevitable happened – AGAIN – my studio flooded.
We are actually quite high up and not an area subjected to flooding, but unfortunately our flooding has more to do with poor house design than location. The studio runs parallel to the house with a narrow alcove between the two. There’s only one way in and the door to my studio sits at the dead end. The path slopes downward from the entrance to the studio door, so anytime there is heavy rain it pools at the closed off end like a pond. Normally the drainage system in the alcove drains the excess water away. . . but this was no ordinary rain! The only avenue of escape for the water was to seep through the miniscule gap under my studio door. . . so in it came to my studio and classroom.
Previous experiences with a flooded studio has taught me many valuable lessons. Everything is now raised up off the ground so damage is always minimal. Unfortunately, on this occasion there were a few boxes and things on the floor as my work space is full to the brim with market stock. I lost several finished items, some unpainted timber and a rug due to water damage. . . [ggrrrrrrrr]. It’s upsetting but rather than stew on it I tossed the damaged stock in the bin and put it out of my mind. . . I’d prefer to find a positive and thanked nature for giving the studio floors a good wash.
I’ve spent today cleaning and sorting my soggy work space and making plans for some house alterations to prevent future flooding. I think maybe the ‘Thrifting Gods’ were smiling down on me also. . . a quick dash into my favourite store on my way to Bunnings this morning reaped a bounty. I guess it was just meant to be!
So all being good, I’ll be back next time with the thrifting transformation photos.
Hugs ~ Kerryanne
Sorry to hear about your studio being drenched again….I know just how you feel as this happened to me a few years ago with my sewing room when we too had torrential rain in a short span of time.I hope everything dries off quickly for you 🙂 Barb.
Oh No !! I remember your last flood too. Glad to see you haven’t dwelled on it hun – Onwards and upwards 🙂 Let’s hope the problem is easily fixrd. Hugs – Fee XX Ps. Looking forward to seeing your latest finds. XX
Hope you are able to do something to prevent future flooding.
We had a ‘trapdoor’ type downpour this evening as I left work so by the time I got on my train I was like a drowned rat…amazingly, when I got to my home station there was no sign of any rain at all…

Oh No Kerryanne, what a test of your patience. Great way to turn it around to a positive and the universe answered with your new finds:) I hope you didn’t loose too much stock.
We are expecting heavy rain and storms this afternoon so I hope I get home in time to protect my studio too.
Stay dry
Lee:)
