Hippity Hoppity… Easters on its way

I don’t know about you . . . but Easter kind of snuck up on me this year.

For a couple of weeks I’ve been adding a few Easter touches to my vignettes around the house. . .

but I’m keeping it very simple this year.

Easter has always been a low-key celebration for us as a family.

When our children were young we had issues with food allergies and intolerances. . . one being dairy. Of course chocolate Easter eggs were a no go for us, so getting together with extended family was always fraught with drama. Try convincing a 3 year old that their carob substitute Easter eggs are as nice as all the other kids Cadbury eggs. . . or taking the eggs off them when they have participated in the annual egg hunt!

So early on the Easter Bunny decided to leave gifts instead of chocolate and we avoided group Easter activities to ensure that our girls didn’t feel left out.

Easter was still fun. . .

Like the year the Easter bunny left dirty paw prints right through the house. . . that’s how we know he hopped down to each girls bedroom to check they were asleep.

Or. . . what about the year the Easter Bunny left poo on our veranda!!!

My husband was appalled at the lengths I’d go to, to make Easter fun (without chocolate).

Who knew Easter Bunny poo could create such a stir.

Not only were our girls impressed that the Easter Bunny chose to poo at their house, but they were like celebrates at school when the other kids heard.

All talk of who had the most eggs was forgotten for tales of where the Easter Bunny does poo!

Okay, so I gathered from the strange looks that some of the other school mums were not overly impressed with Easter Bunny poo. . . but let me just say, anyone can go to K.Mart or target and fill their trolley with chocolate eggs, I had to go into some local bushland with a plastic bag and scoop and find real bunny poo!!

 

As our girls grew up the allergies abated and we could finally indulge in chocolate eggs at Easter. . . and we certainly made up for all those chocolate free years.

Now we prefer quality chocolate over quantity. . . and so we decided as a family this year that we’d not give each other Easter eggs.

We are having a communal bowl of our favourites on the kitchen table for everyone to pick at and focusing instead on making Easter a celebration of family time.

Our daughter Jess is coming home for Easter and now that she is a student living away from home, I’m sure she’ll love nothing more than some home cooked meals and ‘hanging out’ in the kitchen.
