You may call me ‘completely stupid’ (you wouldn’t be the first). . . ‘sucker for punishment’ or perhaps ‘easy pushover mum’. . .
would you believe I succumbed to another sleepover birthday party.
I seem to recall after last years Arabian Nights 13th birthday sleepover party (read about it here) I mumbled something about never doing it again in this lifetime. Crank forward 12 months and here we are again at Miss Aimee’s 14th birthday. . . with a sleepover party no less.
Why on Earth we call them a sleepover is beyond me, when we all know they try as hard as possible to NOT go to sleep. And of course this year was no different. Same giggling girls, same venue, but a new theme at least!
I give you the. . .
A surprise theme for the guests. . .
Thrown together on the day of the party with a small budget, lots of creativity and copious amounts of mumbling under one’s breath.
Orange and hot pink tissue paper bunting and balloons at the entrance. (So quick and cheap)
Accompanied by Mexican Mariachi music. . . of course!
Loads of Mexican crepe paper flowers everywhere to add that splash of colour that the Mexicans are famous for.
Mocktails on arrival for the little Senoritas,
served in fluted glasses tied with more Mexican paper flowers and garnished with a gummy bear stick.
After that first hit of sugar they’re ready to part-eeeeeeee!!
The fiesta dining room took on a different colour scheme with bright pink, lime green, purple and yellow streamers, balloons and paper flowers.
Dinner naturally, was a buffet of tacos and burritos.
Followed by homemade ice-cream served in a chocolate cup with chocolate sauce, made by the birthday girl herself.
Just in case they hadn’t had enough sugar yet, which of course they’d need to stay awake all night, we added chocolate fairy cakes filled with jam and cream and topped with more of that Persian fairy floss we are lovin’ right now.
Everything looks nicer by candlelight. . .
umm, perhaps it is just us oldies that look better in the candlelight?
After dinner the Senoritas moved on to parteeeeeee in the other room while I attended to the clean up. . . hmm, very wisely went with all disposable this year, with my apologies to the environment of course, and was able to dump this lot in a garbage bag and have the clean up done in minutes.
What followed was a night of sugar fixed ecstasy, not the illegal drug type. . . nooooooooooooooooo. . .
this one is the kind that giggly teenage girls get when they get together as a group, throw back as many fizzy drinks and sugar laced foods as possible and jump around the room ‘all a buzz’. . . fun, fun, fun!!
Needless to say, with the exception of the furry babies, no sleep was had by any of us on this occasion, which apparently heralds it as quite the successful party!!
All the darling little Senoritas were picked up by 10 am the following morning , by which time they seemed to have lost most of their fizz and bubble.
And the only remaining sign that a Mexican Fiesta took place here is this, the last of the decorations still intact and the house full of zombies that are trying to ‘function’ two days after the event.
And from the biggest zombie of the lot ~ Adiós a mis amigos

Hi Kerryanne, We too had a sleepover party this weekend. I love the vibrant colours. Our party was very late. My daughter’s birthday was in March! A few things delayed the party. I may post about it later in the week.

You’re a lovely mum, Kerryanne! I hope you get some much-deserved rest soon so that creativity is bubbling away like the fizzy drinks! Gosh I love the gummy bear detail on those mocktails!!! Too cute!

Lol, the senoritas may pay for their fun, sugar laced, cream topped chocolate rage by needing to reach for the facewash and cover stick shortly. A small price to pay for such a great time and a memorable birthday though!

What a fun idea for the girls…not so much fun for you getting it all ready. Still, at least the disposable clear-up was a help.
So what’s the theme for next year…LOL
