Easy faux patchwork frame for fall

You’ve all told me how much you enjoy these quick and easy faux patchwork projects, so here’s another one that will take less than an hour to whip up.

…A faux patchwork frame for fall.

Supplies:

Fabric scraps,

Iron on applique paper Visoflex or Heant’n’Bond and iron,

Scrap piece of muslin/calico  slightly larger than your frame,

Sewing machine and usual sewing supplies (scissors, cotton etc),

Optional – red ink pad and alphabet stamps.

 

 

Instructions:

1. Iron applique paper onto back of fabric scraps and cut out random shapes to form applique – this can be freehand or you can draw up a grid and size your patches. For my 8” x 10” frame (20 cm x 25 cm), I made my patches a mixture of 5 cm x 5 cm, 5 cm x 10 cm, 2.5 cm x 10 cm and 10 cm x 10 cm.

2. I placed my frame insert onto the calico backing fabric and traced around it to use as a guide for placement of my patches. I roughly positioned the patches on the calico and when I was happy with the placement, I peeled the paper off the back of the patches and adhered them to the backing fabric with a steamless iron.

 

 

3, Using a coordinating cotton (green), I used a blanket stitch on my sewing machine and sewed around each of my patches.

4. I also added a stamped patch that read ‘autumn’ and stitched this in place with coordinating thread. You could also use buttons or hand stitching etc.

 

 

5. The frame is a thrift store one I painted chippy white a long while ago. I simply removed the glass and wrapped the faux patchwork around the frame insert and taped to the back.

 

 

There are just so many possibilities with this super easy project!!

And the best part…. all completed from start to finish in less than an hour.

I think this project would make a special gift for a friend who appreciates handmade pretties.
