You know those boxes of pins you get from the haberdashery?
They’ve got like 500 pins in them…
Let me just say it felt more like thousands when I was picking them up off the carpeted floor…. uugghh.
It was around about that time that I decided to make myself a magnetic pin dish.
I had in fact, found a sweet little ceramic dish much earlier, that I had earmarked to make my magnetic dish… just because I thought it would be useful.
When I’m sewing with my machine I use my Pincushion Angel, but sometimes when I take hand sewing out of the craft room, I just need a small amount of pins.
Suddenly, after the pin spill this project took on more urgency!
Tip: don’t ever knock the open box of pins off the arm of the chair. It takes forever to pick them up… and NO, I didn’t think to use a magnet!
Soooo, now I have this sweet little bowl with pins that won’t fall out and it is so super easy to make.
All you need is a small dish or saucer, a magnet and clear glue.
My little dish is just the perfect size for what I required. I simply applied glue to the base of the magnet and adhered it to the bottom of my bowl.
Ta-da…. now it’s a magnetic bowl and the pins (and needles) stick to it.
Do you have a handy crafting tip you can share? I’d love to share them with everyone.
Sometimes it is the really simple and obvious things that save us so much time!

This is wonderful, Kerryanne! I was just picking up what seemed like hundred of pins the other days and yelling at the kids and the dogs to stay away. I will have to make this for myself now. Thank you!

What a useful idea. I too have been there and had puppies who thought it was playtime cos ‘mum’ was on the floor on her hands & knees. The worry when you spill pins is that you have missed some and you will find them in a way that you would prefer not to.
Thanks for this really useful tip.
