Hi creative friends,
Each month in the Craft Room, we love celebrating the amazing talent, creativity, and kindness that our members bring to our community… and this month, I’m delighted to shine the spotlight on Caroline Nash from Lindford, Hampshire, England.
Caroline is a new member of the Craft Room, having joined us in the June intake, but she’s already making a heartfelt impression with her beautiful crafting style and willingness to share her creations.
Her vintage-inspired makes are a delightful blend of charm, skill, and nostalgia… perfectly aligned with the whimsical, shabby aesthetic we all adore at Shabby Art Boutique.
Caroline’s love of crafting runs deep, rooted in a long family tradition of makers and creatives. With a childhood surrounded by the hum of sewing machines, the clink of knitting needles, and the gentle stroke of watercolor brushes, it’s no surprise that creativity became second nature to her.
At just five years old, Caroline received her first sewing machine and began making clothes for her dolls… skills that later blossomed into creating her own garments.
Over the years, her crafting journey evolved to include cross stitch, machine embroidery, and eventually paper crafting, which she embraced over the last decade.
When asked to describe her style, Caroline shared her affection for all things vintage and Victoriana… from the 1950s and earlier, saying, “It was a gentler time.”
That sentiment shines through in her delicate makes and thoughtfully assembled projects, which often combine her love of sewing and papercraft.
While she owns a Cricut Joy, Caroline finds joy in fussy cutting by hand, often taking a folder of images with her on day trips to keep her fingers busy while traveling.
One of her favourite projects is a cross stitch created using her embroidery machine, which now hangs proudly in her sewing room.
It’s a testament to her love of stitching and the satisfaction that comes from blending traditional craft with modern tools.
Caroline’s creative process is methodical and intentional. She prefers to have everything prepared and laid out before beginning, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable crafting session.
Her essential tools include her embroidery machine, Fabritac glue, paper trimmer, craft knife (currently an Olfa with replaceable tips), and plenty of white card and paper… though she admits she has a love-hate relationship with her HP printer!
When it comes to inspiration, Caroline draws from many sources. She’s been influenced by artists like Monet for his muted colours, and even had the privilege of meeting Mary Quant (Mary Plunket-Greene), who left a lasting impression with her encouragement and warmth.
Within the Craft Room, she’s especially inspired by Nicola and Lauren’s projects, and the diversity of interpretations members bring to each kit.
Reflecting on her experience as a Craft Room member, Caroline shared,
“I’ve always loved your creations, Kerryanne, but joining the Craft Room has opened up friendship and inspiration through all the wonderful creations. It fascinates me that everyone has a different take, even when using the same papers. Having a new kit each month gives me ideas to create—last month’s Summer House kit kept me amused all month, and I still have more ideas to try!”
Right now, Caroline is diving into the July kit, slightly delayed due to the summer heatwave and a recent flurry of stitching projects. But like all of us, she’s eager to get back to crafting as the cooler days return.
Thank you, Caroline, for sharing your heart, your talents, and your beautiful creativity with us.
Your thoughtful approach to crafting and warm spirit are what make the Craft Room such a special place.
You can find Caroline on her YouTube channel, Caroleecrafts and on Instagram.
Please join me in thanking and celebrating our Crafter of the Month, Caroline Nash.
Happy crafting,
