Time spent in the craft room is always time well spent.
It invigorates and energizes my creativity.
It opens up my senses… and my happiness blooms like a flower slowly opening under a dawning sun. It’s my happy place!
Do you have any creative rituals?
You know, like things you do to get you in the MOOD.
For me it is putting on my apron. It’s like a crafting uniform… and is an ‘on’ switch to my head, heart and soul to prepare for creativity.
When I create, I like to use all my senses. I preferably like to have my soft background music, which tends to be folksy or jazz. I enjoy all kinds of scents, whether they be a scented candle, burning oils or incense.
And it wouldn’t be a ‘crafternoon’ without a hot cuppa!
Today was a free form crafting project. No rules!!
It took me a long while to get used to creating in this style. My perfectionistic ways wouldn’t allow me to ‘wing’ it, but now that I have let go and embraced this style, I find it truly relaxes me.
I think I’m getting better at it too… but it doesn’t matter, these days are all about just enjoying the moment.
Throwing paint on a canvas without planning it… collaging freely with paper…
Or like today, just playing with a bag of scraps.
It included stamping on fabric, ripping fabrics, free motion stitching, hand embroidery and collaging with bits and pieces from my leftovers bag.
Using iron on fusible webbing, I attached ripped blocks of fabric onto a base piece of background fabric. Then added some free motions stitching, which is always fun.
Stamping on fabric is another way to add interesting elements to fabric collage. I simply added some fusible webbing to the back of my fabric scrap, stamped on my design, then cut it out and ironed the element onto my main design.
It was fun… nothing was planned. I kept adding bits and pieces like buttons and cut up vintage doilies.
Sure it’s not perfect. It’s not meant to be. I guess from a design point of view, there are things I would probably change if I was planning the piece, but the whole point of winging it is to ‘just play’ and enjoy the moment.
What started as an unplanned piece actually turned into something useful by the end of the afternoon.
I’ll share what I made with you tomorrow.
Care to guess what I made from my fabric scraps collage?

Not sure what you made with the piece Kerryanne but it sure is pretty.
I look forward to finding out what you made with your creative piece.
You have put together a lovely design, it would make a great draw string bag to put your present hand work project. The colours are the palette I love, makes the creative soul sing. Will be waiting to see what the final product is. Take care.
No idea! But I like it….
Pretty! Do you use a special ink for stamping fabric or just the usual for paper crafting? Do you have to heat set it too?
Hi Jenn, I used my Staz On pad for this project and for many other fabric projects. I even wash and iron them and have been very happy with the results. 🙂
You are busier than a queen bee but you make time to share projects with us, how awesome are you gal.
This is such a delightful project, sure glad you shared with us. Have special folder with your projects in it.
Before I forget once again, have to tell you how much I love your teacup and those bowls you use for props, the prints on them just speak to me so much. I always look for them when I read your posts.
Today was Mother’s day here in U.S. had nice quiet day with hubs and youngest daughter/hubs came over for while and both sons called me. What more could a Mom ask for?
Hope your trip is relaxing as well as productive, have wonderful week Kerryanne. Thanks for this lovely project. Hugs
So happy to hear that you had a wonderful Mother’s Day Jane. The GreenGate pieces are so pretty. They make me happy just looking at them too and I got a special piece for Mother’s Day that really made my heart flutter. Have a great week my friend xx
