It’s been a busy time in the Shabby Art Boutique studio this month with special birthdays, anniversaries and now Mother’s Day is just around the corner too.
I know I’ve said this here before, but it is something I truly believe….
The wrapping on the gift is an integral part of the whole gift receiving experience.
Gift wrapping needn’t be expensive to make a big impact.
And I think you’ll be surprised at how quick this sweet 3 drawer gift box was to make.
It also cost less than buying a cardboard gift box from the discount store.
Now I realise that this particular gift box is only suitable for smaller items.
I have 3 things to go in the drawers… hence the design…
But I hope it plants the seed of inspiration so that others can use it to add interest to the art of gift wrapping.
For this box I used a pack of matches that came cello wrapped as a set of 3.
They are the larger sized matches, so each box measures 3” long x 2” wide x 1” high.
1. After emptying the matches out of the boxes and putting aside to use later on, I glued all 3 boxes together to form a little chest of drawers.
2. I cut a strip of pretty scrapbooking paper 3” wide and long enough to wrap around the outside of the set of 3 boxes. I left a small excess, so the ends overlap underneath when I glued the paper around the box.
Each drawer front and inside the drawers were covered with a coordinating paper. Glue in place and sand the edges with a nail file. To make it easier to pull the drawers in and out, I recommend the use of tiny handles sold in scrapbooking stores. Mine are by Kaisercraft.
3. The box looks far more interesting with little feet, so I glued 4 pink acrylic, facet cut beads to the bottom of the box. To embellish, I added a long piece of seam binding ribbon…. because every gift needs pretty ribbon!
4. The final touches on this particular box were a tiny Tilda postcard, a mini crochet doily and a handmade satin peony flower.
The gift box is almost a gift in itself… destined to be used again after the gift has been opened.
So… with about $3 of supplies (approx) and less than 20 minutes of my time, this will make for a memorable ‘shabbilicious’ gift.
