When ‘The Princess’ moved out of home 2 months ago her little sister quickly lay claim to her vacant room and completely make it over.
That of course now leaves another empty bedroom.
I decided to transform it into a new room for The Princess for when she visits, as well as serving as a guest bedroom.
I knew I wanted the room to be indulgently feminine, light and bright. . . and of course white.
Although not finished yet, it is shaping up to be exactly what I envisaged. . . a room fit for a Princess.
But the room needed something. . .
With all that white I felt it needed a hint of colour.
I decided to fill the void above the bed with a large canvas.
It started as a mixed media background with many overlays of pinks and greys. . . I wasn’t sure exactly where I was going with it.
I just knew I wanted it to be feminine.
When I thought about feminine paintings I knew instantly what my inspiration would be. . . Laurence Amelie. . . her French tutu paintings are ultra feminine.
Although Laurence creates with a very free flowing style and lots of different mediums. . . I think I channelled her on some level.
I liked the idea of a formal gown with lashings of tulle and chiffon hanging in the wind.
My friend brought back some beautiful Italian lace from a recent trip overseas and I’ve been very reluctant to use any of it. . . but I did snip off a small piece to attach to the bodice of the dress. . . it was the little something extra the painting needed.
Overall, I think it lifts the room and sets the theme.
I look forward to sharing the rest of the room with you very soon.
Meanwhile, I’m sharing my ball gown painting at this week’s link parties and with these friends: French Country Cottage, Blissful Whites Wednesday, The Vintage Farmhouse, 36th Avenue, Clean and Scentsible, Live Laugh Rowe, The DIY Dreamer, Transformation Thursday, At The Picket Fence, Be Inspired Friday at Common Ground, Nifty Thrifty Sunday.
