Hello there,
Here’s a little something I’ve been working on in the craft room.
They are vintage book paper baubles that I’ll be using in my Christmas décor this year.
You’ll see these in my Christmas home tour later on, but I thought I might share how I made my baubles… just in case you are looking for a really quick, easy and inexpensive DIY… don’t you just love those kind of projects!!
Here’s what you need:
Cheap plastic Christmas balls,
Vintage book paper,
DecoArt Decoupage Glue (or Mod Podge/ Elmers Glue) and a foam brush and disposable dish,
Additional optional extras – German Glass Glitter or Epsom Salts, rhinestone buttons and pretty ribbons.
Instructions:
1. Remove the hanger from the top of the ball decoration.
2. Rip up book pages into quite small strips.
3. You’ll need a disposable dish to pour your glue into. Using the foam brush, partially coat your first ball with glue.
4. Start adding the small strips of book paper, dampening down and re-coating with the loaded glue brush as you go. It doesn’t take very long to cover each ball.
5. Put each completed ball aside to dry thoroughly. I left mine overnight. When they are dry, carefully put the hanger back on the top of the ball.
6. I wanted my balls to have more of a winter feel about them, so I added glue to the top and rolled them in Epsom Salt. Alternatively, you could also use glass glitter for a bit of sparkle.
That’s all there is to it… easy peasy shabbilicious vintage book paper balls.
This is a fun ‘no brainer’ kind of project. Aimee and I sat and chatted and listened to music while we glued and papered our vintage balls.
The beauty of vintage book paper balls is that they tie in with so many different themes…. and it’s a perfect way to reuse coloured balls that no longer match your colour scheme.
My Victorian Angels would go nicely with this project!
Happy festive crafting,
Hugs

How lovely. The ‘frosty’ top to the bauble is the perfect finishing touch.

Hi Kerryanne,
Oh my gosh, so pretty. I love the book pages used this way! The things you adorned the ornament with are just so pretty.

I love these Kerryanne. They are gorgeous and they look so easy to make. A little bling for the tree. Great idea. Thank you for sharing.

Gorgeous! Kerryanne, what kind of ribbon did you use? It’s very vintage looking and I’m not sure what to look/ask/search for when I go to purchase ribbon. Thank you for sharing your project!

Thanks Kelli. The ribbon was seam binding. I buy mine online 🙂

Can always count on you designing a very special idea that is fairly easy to complete and turns out gorgeous. Maybe even I can make these gorgeous. Have some book pages in mind, some Epsom salts, seam binding and faux gem buttons, can hardly wait to make these. You always have such incredible ideas.
so far you have inspired me to make some sweet gifts. I will be sure to let gift receivers know where I got ideas and tags for them.
Looking forward to your next post, sweet thoughts.
