As we woke this morning to day four of the worse disaster in our Nation’s history, the confirmed death toll at this time is 173 – and still rising.
Victorians are glued to their TV’s and radios listening to the around the clock coverage of this tragedy. Personally, I feel a sense of numbness and disbelief – my heart is heavy and my tears are real. Who would have thought Melbourne could experience a devastating tragedy worse than Ash Wednesday? Horrific stories of suffering and survival are now surfacing. Our community is showing its incredible generosity through donations of money, goods, volunteering and support.
As a family, we sat last night and packed up our goods for donation. We talked about the events of the past few days, letting the girls express their concerns and answering their questions as honestly as we could. They have been bombarded with images and news reports on TV for days now and you just never know how they are processing all this information. Afterwards…. I hugged my children a little tighter and once again gave thanks that we are safe.
I haven’t been painting all that much – just playing around with new techniques and ideas. Thought I would show you a couple of pics from some recent painting sessions. The first is a 8″ x 10″ canvas I showed you a sneak peek of last week. The photo doesn’t show all the detailed elements. I still need to varnish and glitter at some point too. This one will be available as a print when I re-open.
The second one is a much larger canvas that is 70 cm wide. This was an exercise in trying out various mixed media techniques. Once again the photos don’t really show all the detail.
Beautiful Kerryanne.
I can not stop myself from crying everytime I think about the horror people have experienced.
Your paintings are just what we need, a thing of beauty, well two things of beauty. They are lovely and I adore the mixed media yu have used…

Can you imagine this time last week we were all happily going about our everyday routines….
It’s all too sad for words.
Your artwork is beautiful Kerryanne – made me smile and feel happy for the first time in awhile
Kirstie from Adelaine Cottage is collecting donations, I’ve just sent a parcel off to her with some brand new clothes and also some not so useful gift cards and book marks, let’s hope the not so useful items will at least make someone smile
It is such a tradgedy on such a huge scale it is hard to grip it .
We have firey friends as we speak back out there after a mere 5 or so hours between.
The aussie Spirit may be battle scarred but it is aLIVE AND WELL!
Unfathomable and too think at least one was deliberately started. Heartbreaking to watch on TV . . . so sorry . . . Rachaelxo

Kerryanne, thankyou for these beautiful pics in the middle of such sadness. I too am thinking to find something beautiful to post about today.
hi kerryanne…a lovely post…
how hard is it to comprehend?? even if we do NOT have an immediate person we know who has suffered…
we ALL seem to know another person who has a connection..
THIS IS JUST TOTAL DEVASTION…beyond comprehension…

Hey Kerryanne
Beautiful paintings & I cannot help thinking how perfect the timing is with the *watching over you* one.
It just keeps getting worse dosn’t it, sadder & sadder & when you think you cannot see anything worse they show you or tell you something on TV & the shock hits again. Last night before the ads they started to show some of the people who had died & I think that has been the hardest to see, elderly couples, beautiful teenage girls but the hardest for me is the little kids, its just so wrong.
This is going to take a long time to get over.

Kerryanne,
I was devastated and in disbelief when I heard the news about the fires. It is good that you have your family to hold close and bring comfort to one other during such a frightening time. i will be praying!
(Your work is very beautiful!)
Hey Kerryanne! Your paintings are just gorgeous – I especially love the Dream painting – the paper you’ve used for the butterflies and collar look fabulous. I love the little quote about dreaming, too! A touch of beauty brightening what has been an ugly week – well done my creative friend!! Bear Hugs! KRIS
I dropped by your blog after picking up a link through Rosey at Agapanthas and Goldsworthy.
Our thoughts are with all the people of Victoria after seeing those terrible images on the TV and our hopes that the worst is over.
I love your paintings.
Take care.

Kerryanne,
This is my first visit to your blog. It is lovely.
However, my heart goes out to all of you in Australia affected by this terrible devastation. My heart and prayers are with you all.
