Now that we are settled into our new home at the resort, we are starting on that long list of DIY’s and room make-over’s that will make our new place feel more like home.
We are being very careful to keep to one project at a time and seeing each one through before starting another… although I have been purchasing lots of yummy goodies in readiness for those future projects.
This weekend we completed an easy and quick make-over on our bedroom.
The room is the same as the rest of the house with sloping Scandinavian style rooflines and timber lined ceilings.
There was not a great deal we could do in this room due to the size, but with a few budget friendly elements and using items we already had, we have made it comfortable and cosy.
The walls were already painted a soft shade of ice blue. We quite liked the colour and it complimented our large cherub picture perfectly, so we didn’t bother to repaint.
The picture was actually a gift from my husband a long tome ago. He liked it because the rosy cheeked cherubs reminded him of our girls, so it is the main feature in our room.
Linen and accessories have been kept to a simple white and shabby colour palette. The addition of 2 small Pottery Barn cushions extends the soft blue wall colour to the bed, as does a blue throw rug we already had in the linen cupboard.
It’s an unusual room in that it has a partial dividing wall (8 foot high) that separates the sleeping area from the walk in wardrobe/dressing room and the ensuite entrance.
The dividing wall definitely needed something decorative that would compliment the shabby look without overwhelming the small room.
And this is what we found….
A beautiful wall sticker from my sponsor Icon Wall Stickers.
With 1000’s of stickers to choose from it took me awhile to decide, but in the end I went with this gorgeous floral love heart sticker in white… it certainly adds a subtle but decorative touch to our bedroom.
I’ve used wall stickers in home decorating many times and love that the stickers can be purchased in a variety of sizes and colours. Another bonus is that they are removable, leaving no damage to paintwork, and are non-toxic. They are easy to clean, and once applied look like they are painted on!
Not only that, they are surprisingly easy and quick to apply!!
Icon Wall Stickers provide you with easy to follow instructions.
Above you can see that my large sticker was cut into two pieces. I used painters tape to stick the two pieces temporarily to the wall, so I could gauge the best position.
When I was satisfied with the placement I peeled off the backing paper and proceeded to rub the first sticker with my squeegee, but you can use a credit card instead.
With one sticker in place, I repeated the process for the second half of my heart. After 10 minutes it was okay to removed the clear top paper and then I could stand back and admire my new wall art…. and I LOVE it!!
I think the Icon Wall Stickers are the perfect budget friendly way to add some pizzazz to almost any smooth surface in your home.
There’s a huge variety to choose from, they are easy to apply and when you want a change they are easy to remove too. . . which I think is also very important.
For anyone who might be interested, I ordered my floral heart sticker form the Icon Wall Sticker website, which is easy to navigate and there’s even a great FAQ page for any queries you might have. I can highly recommend a visit to the website to check out their full range… the only hard thing is what to choose.
Following the application of the wall sticker, we shopped our own cupboards for some added extras to finish the room. . . my favourite vintage bed tray, a mosquito net, candles and a string of fairy lights.
I’m pretty pleased with how my bedroom turned out.
It suits us and our beach lifestyle perfectly.
I’m sharing our bedroom make-over at the following parties this week:

Joëlle
Thank you Joelle. I can highly recommend the use of the stickers. They are so super easy to use and with such a difficult small room to decorate the wall sticker was the perfect decorative element for our room.

so pretty Kerryanne! What a gorgeous space you’ve created!
Thank you Anne. I’m pretty pleased with it… given the size restrictions I think we pulled off a calm and shabby bedroom that suits our needs.
Thanks for visiting,
Kerryanne
Kerryanne,
I think a bedroom should be a sanctuary where you go at the end of your day for relaxation and spa like calm. You nailed it with this. How pretty and cozy this room looks. I love the wall stencil too so sweet.
Kris
Thank you Kris. Our new bedroom is sadly so small that there wasn’t a lot of choice for decorating. No room for extra furniture, so our options were limited to the available wall space and a few thing son the side tables. It feels comfortable and calming and a big bonus is that is faces south, so we get no direct sunlight in this room…. that’s really important when you live in a hot climate. I think the pale blue walls also help with the cooling effect.
Thanks for visiting,
Hugs – Kerryanne
I really love your bedroom Kerryanne. It looks gorgeous. A wonderful idea with that beautiful heart decal. Shirley N.Z.
Thanks Shirley. I really love the heart sticker for our bedroom… it just seemed like the logical choice for a bedroom design. Even my hubby liked it, so everyone was happy.
it’s lovely–so soft and pretty:) love the fairy lights!
Thank you Lynn. I have to admit that I really love the effect of fairy lights and have always used them in bedrooms for both myself and my girls.
What a beautiful calming room – lovely soft colours and such a cosy feel.
You have really achieved a super room Kerryanne.
Toni xx
Thanks Toni. We feel comfortable in there and it suits our beachy lifestyle and warm climate. It was a bit of a bonus having a paint colour that we liked and could save some money on not having to repaint straight away.
I love how the lacy heart matches the pillows.
So did I Cindy. I wasn’t sure anyone else would notice. The blue cushions which were actually given to me as a gift are the exact same colour as the wall paint, so they match the designed wall perfectly.
Love the calm ,warm feel you created. Perfect for your bedroom… and the sticker heart is gorgeous..:)
Thanks Baej. It is a very calming space… it’s the perfect colour for creating a calming and relaxed atmosphere. 🙂
Oh, your bedroom looks so peaceful and serene, Kerryanne! I love the wall sticker-so subtle but gorgeous!! 🙂
Susan
Thanks Susan. Subtle was exactly what I was going for…. just a little something to make the room more interesting without overwhelming the other items.
Hugs,
Kerryanne
I really love the white bed set. It is such a serene bedroom. Pretty.
Ellya
Thanks Ellya. I looked for a long time to find just the right white linen, but sadly the intricate details don’t really show up all that well in the photos.
Just love your bedroom, That picture of the angels is perfect–one of my all time favorites 🙂
We love it too Sandy. One of those beautiful cherubs was so very much like our Jessica when she was a toddler, so my hubby bought it to remind us of her. I don’t think I will ever tire of such a beautiful piece of art.
Hugs,
Kerryanne
