I’m absolutely honoured to be in the ‘Bloglight’ at Hometalk today.
Are you familiar with Hometalk?
If you haven’t already checked it out then you really must. Hometalk is the largest home & garden knowledge hub on the web. It’s an amazing place where home enthusiasts and professionals hang out together sharing their firsthand experiences and advice.
Trust me, you’ll love it. You can ask for help or advice about your home and garden, you can read about other people’s projects or post your own, plus there are literally thousands of inspirational photos that you can clip to your own boards right there on Hometalk. . . and don’t we all love clipping inspirational ideas!
This is where you’ll find Shabby art Boutique at Hometalk . . . but you’ll also find me hanging out at Hometalk’s page on Pinterest where I get to be the Honorary Pinner for Hometalk’s Shabby Chic Board. Yeah I know, that’s kind of a hard gig, but someone has to pin those pretty pictures [smile].
Being in the ‘Bloglight’ means I get to share a little bit about my blog with you today.
Shabby Art Boutique began about 6 years ago when I started this blog as a sideline to my web business, Woodberry Designs. I didn’t know much about blogging back then, but it looked to me like a good way to share with my customers some of the daily happenings and projects on the go here in my studio.
At the time I purposely chose the name Shabby Art Boutique, so it could be a separate entity from my business. . . keep in mind this was before I knew about branding and need for continuity and of course I had no clue then that a few years down the track my business and blog would become one.
These days my blog forms part of my business and the time spent blogging is considered work time. I guess the two work together. . . my blog feeds my business and my business needs my blog.
I have a lot of fun with my blog and get a huge amount of satisfaction from it, but because blogging is part of my work day I do have to be disciplined with it. I use this Blog Planner to plan my schedules. It’s one I designed for myself and I also share it as a free download here on my blog.
Over time, my blog and business have found their niche in the shabby/vintage arena. It’s a decorating style that I’m passionate about, so I love being able to share my DIY, crafting projects and original designs here on my blog and at Hometalk.
As many of you already know, I’m an old fashioned apron wearing kind of girl who likes to put the homemade, home baked and home grown back into everyday living… with a dash of creativity thrown in too. So I’m thrilled that my most popular post at Hometalk has been one of my homemade recipes – DIY: Scented Room Spray
It’s an easy and cheap to make recipe that can be personalised with a scent of your choice and makes your whole house smell amazing. You’ll find more of my homemade recipe’s and DIY projects on my Tutorials Page on the blog and on my page at Hometalk.
I’m in the process of moving house, so in the coming weeks I’ll be drafting up lots of new project and DIY ideas to make-over our new home. I suspect you’ll find me hanging out at Hometalk more than usual.
May I suggest if you haven’t heard of Hometalk before, please take a moment and check it out. It’s a fun place to spend some time being inspired.
Thank you to Miriam for allowing me this opportunity to shine in the Bloglight today!!
