Hand Quilted Tilda Fabric Coasters

I often have several crafty projects on the go at once.

I especially like the ones that are tucked away in the sewing basket and brought out every so often….

These gorgeous hand quilted Tilda fabric coasters were one of those projects and I finally finished them this week.

Aren’t they sweet?

 

 

They were my sunny afternoon ‘go-to’ project.

Being all hand quilted, they were portable and perfect to take out on to the back patio for some hand sewing in the Autumn sunshine.

 

 

The inspiration for these gorgeous coasters came from one of the early Tilda books, Sew Pretty Homestyle.

Although the project shown in the book was for either a floor rug or large placemat, it was easy to adapt the basic instructions to make a smaller version as pretty coasters.

 

 

This was certainly not my idea…. if you follow any of the Scandi Chic/pastel living blogger, you’ll see these hand quilted fabric coasters adorning their kitchen tables.

My coasters are approximately 15cm wide and are made using a variety of pretty Tilda fabrics from my stash. I drew up a pattern with 8 scallop edges, but you could make then any size.

 

 

For the longest time I’ve wanted a set of these scalloped fabric coasters for my own kitchen.

They are quick and easy to assemble using pretty fabrics and wool felt to line them.

 

 

I really enjoyed the hand quilting… which is perfectly imperfect!

Perhaps I will make matching placemats next!!

 

I absolutely have to share with you this sweet shabby chic napkin holder that I picked up on Amazon. Isn’t it just darling!! It reminds me of a country farm gate.

While it usually holds my cloth napkins on the kitchen table, this week it is the ideal place to store my fabric coasters when not in use.

It’s hard to believe that Tone’s Sew Pretty Homestyle was written 10 years ago. It is still one of my all time favourite Tilda books and one that I’ve been gravitating back to recently. I’m pretty sure I’ve made all of the projects over the past decade, but the naivety of these simple projects really appeal to my current decorating style.
