This year we are enjoying a ‘gingerbread’ theme in our kitchen for Christmas.
I love these whimsical little men!
My handmade ginger doll set the theme…
And then we added to it with a collection of salt dough ornaments… like this garland of gingerbread men cookies hanging from the shelf on red and white bakers twine.
Another way we utilized the cookies was to hang them on bakers twine from a suspended branch.
I love how they swing around and scent the air with cinnamon.
This is the recipe I used to make our salt dough cookies:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup cinnamon.
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
Mix the flour, cinnamon and salt thoroughly. Then gradually add the water stirring with a spoon and then kneading with your hands until the dough is soft and pliable.
Roll out on floured surface until dough is desired thickness. Then cut shapes out with cookie cutter and place on cookie sheet.
Bake at 300 for 1 hour.
Here’s another example of what you can do with the salt dough cookies. I made the gingerbread man wreath a couple of year ago using the same recipe and method.
Merry Christmas… and may your kitchen be filled with the scents of the season,
Kerryanne

Gingerbread folk are such fun. I bought a large roll of wired ribbon in the after Christmas sales that has gingerbread men & houses on it…now if I can just remember where I put it LOL

Hi, Kerryanne! These are precious! What did you use to add the white details to the ornaments? Thanks so much for welcoming us into your home.

Oh what a great idea! I bet the house smells the divine too. The girls and I attempted to make ginger bread house but when I came back from making sugar frosting, someone or someones took bites out of each pieces.
