During autumn, we have a plethora of both toadstools and mushrooms popping up in the gardens around our home.
We live in a rainforest, so the moist floor of the forest is littered with decomposing plant material, therefore providing a perfect environment for fungi to grow.
In a place where we don’t typically have a lot of change between the seasons, those first mushrooms are nature’s way of letting us know that cooler nights are on the way.
When I saw a pattern for fabric mushrooms in Tilda’s book, Fairytale Wonderland by Tone Finnanger, I knew I had to make some for my autumn decor…. aren’t they pretty!!
Of course, as is always the way, I didn’t end up using the pattern in the book.
The Tilda pattern was for a fat, squat little mushroom…. and that’s not what I was visualising.
Instead, I wanted my mushrooms to be like the ones that popped up in my garden….. sort of tall and thin.
So I designed my own pattern and made them using the same technique used in the book.
My pretty Tilda fabrics that I used to made my pumpkins were perfect for mushroom caps too.

I think the muted tones of green and pink are perfect for autumn…. don’t you?
The green mushroom in the rear of the above photo is the original pattern by Tilda.
The three taller mushrooms in the cup are my taller version.
I’m sure you will see them popping up occasionally in my fall photos.

You have most likely told us about the Tilda books and fabric but please bear with me – can I get newer Tilda books or any of older Tilda books?And is Tilda fabric available in US? Hopefully if available here I can afford it, same with books.
Your mushrooms are so darned cute, love fabrics you used, certainly do suit your mushrooms. Looks like maybe making heads of mushrooms requires bit of finessing. You are skilled seamstress from what I have seen on several of your delightful projects.

The Tilda products are not sold in the US, but can be purchased online. The little mushrooms are super easy and just basic sewing. They don;t take very long to make either… just two seams and some stuffing! Have a great week sweetie xx
