Hi creative friends,
Each month in the Craft Room, we shine a little spotlight on one of our inspiring members… celebrating their creativity, their crafting journey, and the beautiful ways they express themselves through art.
For August, we are absolutely delighted to introduce you to the talented and heartwarming Vera Lalošević, who brings a European flair and deeply personal creativity to everything she makes.
Vera only began her crafting journey a few years ago, but her passion and artistic eye are a testament to the idea that it’s never too late to discover a new love.
Let’s get to know Vera a little more…
Name & Where Do You Live?
Vera Lalošević lives in beautiful Serbia, in the heart of Europe.
What initially inspired you to start crafting?
Vera’s journey into crafting began later in life and quite unexpectedly.
With a background in math and programming, it surprised many around her when she felt drawn to creative hobbies… especially at the age of 56.
Originally a passionate cook, her first crafting projects were born out of love for her family: decorating her home and making money envelopes for her eldest son’s wedding.
What started as simple DIY quickly blossomed into a passion, and the solitude of the COVID-19 period gave her the time and space to nurture this new hobby.
A printer, scissors, glue… and her late mother’s sewing machine… these were the humble beginnings of a craft journey now filled with heart, imagination, and joy.
How would you describe your craft style?
Vera describes her style as a mix of techniques and textures.
She enjoys using lace, beads, sequins, wax seals, and hanging embellishments… but also finds joy in experimenting with more masculine themes like screws, ropes, denim, and metal.
Her eclectic style reflects her curiosity and openness to learning new things.
A Favourite Project Close to Her Heart
The projects that hold the deepest meaning for Vera are the ones made for her grandchildren.
From handmade Christmas ornaments featuring their photos to hula hoop photo frames created at their birth… these pieces may not be her most technically complex, but they’re filled with love, memory, and sentiment.
Crafts and Techniques She Loves Most
Paper crafts hold a special place in Vera’s heart.
She loves decorating boxes, creating journals and cards, and even transforming recycled items into beautiful keepsakes.
Digital images often find their way into her work, adding charm and storytelling to her projects.
How Has The Craft Room Influenced Your Creative Journey?
Vera credits the Craft Room community for her tremendous growth.
Being surrounded by so much creativity and kindness has helped her evolve, not just as a crafter but also as a person.
She’s learned new techniques, made dear friends, and found daily inspiration in the group.
Crafters Who Inspire Her
While there are many artists she admires, Vera holds a special place for Lauren Sundae, Sandra Limper, and Myry Hilo Papel.
Each has a unique style that speaks to her creative spirit… and of course, she’s also a devoted fan of my Shabby Art Boutique designs.
Behind the Scenes in Vera’s Craft Space
Vera’s process starts with inspiration… an image or design that catches her eye.
She works in a digital editor to plan her layout, prints and cuts her materials, and then lets the embellishing flow naturally.
Her work table is always organized… but she admits that the area around it often looks like a storm of creativity.
Fortunately, she finds just as much joy in tidying up after a successful crafting session!
Her Must-Have Craft Essentials
Every crafter has their favourites, and for Vera, the essentials include:
– Designer papers
– A reliable printer
– Sharp scissors and glue
– Double-sided tape
– A craft knife and cutting mat
– A paper trimmer with a scoring blade
– And die-cutting tools
What is Vera Working on Now?
Currently, Vera is designing a nautical-themed mini tunnel box using the Summer House collection. It will be nestled inside a recycled guitar once owned by her husband… painted in white and blue and lit from within with LED lights. We can only imagine how stunning this living room display will be!
Vera, thank you for sharing your heart, your story, and your gorgeous creativity with us.
Your work reminds us that passion knows no age limit and that some of the most meaningful art is created with love and intention.
We’re so grateful to have you in our Craft Room family. ♥
You can see more of Vera’s creativity on her Instagram account.
Happy crafting,
Hugs
