I’m getting a bit personal today and sharing a piece of my heart.
There’s something special about living on the coast… sand, salt and sea get ingrained in your soul.
I’ve lived in my beachside town for 6 years. I’ve always loved the beach and used it often, but it wasn’t until I moved to the resort in 2013 that I made it part of my everyday life.
[yesterday mornings walk across Shelly Beach]
My day begins with a walk on the beach (rain, hail or shine)…
And most days as the sun sets I walk on the beach again… I’m a dusk and dawn walker.
While I adored being a stay-at-home-mum for 21 years, now that my girls are both independent I have the luxury of being able to focus on ME a little more.
Daily walks on the beach, beachcombing and meditating is the gift I give myself.
It centers and balances me. Sometimes watching the enormity of the ocean (like today’s stormy weather, that is on its way ashore) makes me feel very insignificant in the scheme of things. Sitting, watching the huge waves, puts life in perspective. It diminishes the ‘crap’ I don’t need and allows me to focus on appreciating the little things that shouldn’t be lost in the busyness.
[This morning Shelly Beach looks a whole lot different]
The beach landscape changes with the tides every day. Sand comes and goes… rocks get exposed, amazing things wash up on the beach and throughout it all, a subculture of marine life exists.
Among the delights to explore this morning was this ‘shabbilicious’ rock covered with pink barnicals and heaps of washed up big, blue jellyfish.
The 300 metre walk from the beach back to our home takes you through the rainforest, which is very pleasant, as it is always cool and shady along the walk.
Our climate here is sub-tropical and temeprate, so the year round temperatures don’t vary much. Summer is hot and humid.
So, now you know a little more about my life here at the beach… which has influenced the coastal theme we currently have in our living area.
You may remember this room at Christmas all decked out in red…
It was pretty simple to swap the themes over.
I replaced the Christmas artwork and wreath with some lighthouse prints we had in storage.
We picked out the coastal palette of aquas from the prints and added pops of colour with the cushions and a few accessories.
The red ottoman slip cover was replaced by a similar neutral check cover. These are quite quick and easy to make, so a fun way to change the look.
The room now has a nice cool feel to it… even though is is hot and humid outside.
Did you see my other coastal projects this week?

The pictures of the beach nearby to where you live Kerryanne may just be enough to get me out and about here in Port. I live in Parkland Village near lake road so I am not too close to beaches so I don’t put it as a priority(that should change shouldn’t it! Thanks for the share, hugs Betty

The room looks wonderful Kerryanne and those photos of the beach are beautiful.
I live fairly near to the river Thames here in the UK. My part of the river is where the estuary becomes the river – there used to be some lovely riverside walks but now they have built a new port (grrrrrrr). Not only have we lost a lot of the lovely land along side the river but we also now have to contend with lots of port traffic. Oh to have your climate and that lovely beach…

Hi Kerryanne, thanks for sharing your warm home and oceans view. Our high temp today will be bellow 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Just looking at your home and the walk to the ocean warms me and make me think of summer to come. We live about 40 miles west of Lake Michigan in Illinois. One of my sisters lives about 50 miles south of the Canadian border in North Dakota. She said that it was 30 degrees below 0 this morning before she had to go to work. Enjoy for the rest of us.

Golly, I love your beach pictures. I feel the same way about the immensity of the sea and how it influences your perspective. I only get a beach walk maybe a couple of times a year on average. Love you sharing your place on the planet! I’m going to do more of that too.

Wow Kerryanne! You live in an awesome place! The beach and a rain-forest! Doesn’t get much better than this! And you probably dine on seafood all the time! Fresh! I love to travel to the beach, but it’s a six-hour drive from my home. We only visit once a year and eat the fresh seafood daily! I like the light and airy feel of your home! Thanks for sharing! Blessings from Bama!
