Today’s guest poster is Simone from Beach Vintage
Simone has amazing ideas for thrifty decorating and DIY projects which she shares each week on her blog Beach Vintage.
She also has an online store called Beach Vintage – Thrifting by the sea, which is filled with loads of gorgeous products.
Even better, if you live in Brisbane, pop over to her shop ‘Just Plain Gorgeous’ which is located at 162 Oxford Street, Bulimba.
Shell Napkin Holders and Poinsettia Cake
At Beach Vintage I like a casual approach to table settings at Christmas time. Here are some quick, easy and affordable ideas I will be incorporating this year at home.
Shell Napkin Rings
You will need:
An old shell belt [you can pick these up at op/thrift stores]
Glue Gun
Scissors
Cut up the belt in approx 3 inch increments [or however wide you want the rings to be]
Using your hot glue gun, glue each end around to the other to form a ring.
Tidy up any messy glue bits once dried.
I like to use mismatched vintage napkins inside the rings. It creates a real talking point over dinner!
Poinsettia Christmas cake
Grab a traditional Christmas cake and give it a twist.
You will need:
[enough to ice 1 large cake]
200gms butter
200-250 gms sifted icing sugar
2 Tablespoons milk
Washed Poinsettia leaves [or any similar red flower].
Beat butter with electric mixer for 5 minutes.
Add half the icing sugar, beat for another 5 minutes.
Add milk, beat for another minute.
Add the rest of the icing sugar and beat for another minute or so. Add more icing sugar if you want a thicker consistency.
Top the cake with generous lashing of the icing. Top with Poinsettia leaves arranged casually on top.
