I have a thing for snowmen.
I like to incorporate them in my Christmas decorating . . . which is really kind of weird given I live in Australia where Christmas falls in the middle of our summer.
Even stranger I suppose . . . my part of Australia has a sub-tropical climate. . . where it will never ever snow!
But I like snowmen. . . and a white Christmas seems so romantic. . . so I bring out my little painted snowmen at Christmas time.
This post isn’t really about snowmen . . .
It’s about the plate the snowman is painted on.
I love using pedestal plates when entertaining. . . they not only add height to a table setting, but also allow more plates and platters to be placed on the table. . . which is great if you are putting on a big feast.
Awhile back I painted up a big white platter and I knew it would be ideal for a pedestal plate stand. . . but I needed something to use as the pedestal.
So off to the thrifts stores I went. . . where I found some great thrifty finds that would be perfect for not one, but two pedestal plate stands.
And the best part . . . I spent the grand total of $2.80
After a good sanding, I painted the chunky candle holder white. . .
then distressed it a bit for that shabby time worn look. . .
and attached it to my large platter with Araldite.
I’ve sealed it all with several coats of matt spray, so I can wipe it over after use.
That left me with the smaller candle holder and wood bowl.
Hmm, having just unpacked my Christmas decorations I knew a pedestal bowl for my snowman collection would be perfect.
So I painted up both the bowl and candle holder separately before attaching them with Araldite. . . and now I have the sweetest snowman pedestal plate stand.
Christmas decorating doesn’t have to be expensive!
Sometimes you just have to look outside the box and repurpose thrifted objects.
The candle holders above were originally off cuts of wood. . . but a little paint and artwork made them into pretty and decorative decor pieces.
I’m sharing my thrifted make-overs at these link parties and with these friends this week: French Country Cottage, The Vintage Farmhouse, 36th Avenue, Clean and Scentsible, Live Laugh Rowe, The DIY Dreamer, Transformation Thursday, At The Picket Fence, Nifty Thrifty Sunday.
Oh the snowman is so cute. We had our 1st snow today. But within 2 hrs it was all melted. Enjoy the snowman.
brilliant and SO thrifty!
I love snowmen too. Yours is darling. I lived in Florida most of my life where we had tropical climate but it did get a little cold for Christmas. I have seen a white Christmas before and that was amazing b
Oh wow he’s lovely! I wish I could remember all this when I go to our thrift store! Trouble is ours are a four + hour drive away and by the time I get there I am SO excited I tend to get a bit overwhelmed, no over excited is more accurate, and I’m sure I pass by stuff that I could re-invent! haha!
What a nice snowman! I to believe in finding things old, simple and turn it into something beautiful.. I live in Louisiana and we hardly ever see snow all though it does get pretty cold here for Christmas and maybe every once in a while we get lucky….”we will have a white Christmas”….a new follower, Shari
Oh man, that’s cute. What a great little snowman. I love him.
I love this project! I will sure do one for myself..when I’ll have time..Hugs
Oh I love him. I also have a thing about snowmen, they’re just adorable 🙂 Great idea about the pedestal plate, thanks for sharing.
I love it, Kerryanne! I have a thing for snowmen, too. You are so talented to be able to paint your images on. I’d have to do a transfer or decoupage if I tried this. I love finding wood candlesticks at the thrift store. I always pick them up when I find them even if I don’t have an immediate use for them.
I love this so much! The cake stand is my favorite.

Both are fabulous makes Kerryanne but I have to say, I have fallen in love with your snow folk.

Absolutely stunning Kerryanne! I love the way you’ve painted up the pedestal part too… just love this little fella… with those doleful eyes… too cute! xx
Oh wow. This idea is great…but your snowman painting is absolutely amazing! I’d love to paint like that. 🙂

Oh MY WORD!! I have to thank you for this post & giving me an “Ah-Ha!” moment! I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner on my own. I love what you did with the plate and pedestal! I have several of just these sort of things to redo in such a way, but did not think to do them in a snowman theme. I painted a snowman chair kinda sorta similar to this and did not even think to incorporate it into this project. I’ve already started working on the plate now! LOL!!
the snowman is awesome and looks great with the stand love it!!!!
