This week I am delighted to be joining the fabulous
bHome bloggers for a Christmas Tour.
Four days, thirty one home tours, a giveaway from D. Lawless Hardware and more inspiration than you’ll know what to do with… I suggest ‘pinning’ it all.
[Pin for later]
I’m sharing a Christmas room I’ve never shown you before…
my cottage bedroom.
I know a lot of people don’t decorate their bedrooms for Christmas and to be honest, I’ve always kept mine neutral with shades of white at Christmas.
I love the pale blue and red cottage colour scheme and have used it often in my kitchen and in my living room for Christmas before….
But given it is summer here now, I was a little reluctant to use red in my bedroom before now. Being a hot colour I feared it would make it feel even hotter, but by mixing it with lots of white and cool blues, I think it absolutely pops!
I painted two large angels on 3mm MDF wood. This one above my bed is 1.2 metres wide (4 foot) and the second one is 1.2 metres high. Tilda was the inspiration for the hair and leaving them faceless gives them a more dreamy look.. don’t you agree?
Initially they were going to hold a ring of fairy lights that we could put on at night… but as it happened, I was in Adairs while visiting Brisbane a few weeks ago and I spotted these large berry wreaths. I usually wait until the post Christmas sales to buy new items like this, but I fell in love with them and the seed was planted to have a red and blue Christmas bedroom.
So, why do I decorate my bedroom for Christmas?
Living in a busy holiday resort, we don’t get much privacy. We operate 356 days a year, so when I have time off I escape to my 3 retreats… the beach across the road, my craft room or my attic bedroom.
This is where I escaped to this weekend to write my cards and wrap gifts… and I like to enjoy the feel of Christmas in here too. If the room was larger, I’d definitely have a full size tree as well!
I’ve had the vintage bed tray for many years and use it almost daily. It’s perfect for my ipad, holding crafting supplies or supper if I watch TV or a movie in bed.
Can a bed ever have too many cushions… hmm, well my husband would probably say it can, but I love the coziness of a bed filled with pillows and cushions.
For my cottage Christmas bed I kept my 2 blue Pottery Barn cushions and added in a red cushion and one of my Society 6 Store cushions, T’was The Night Before Christmas pillow.
I love fresh flowers in my bedroom too and at the moment our hydrangea bushes are loaded. The vase sits inside a red IKEA pot plant holder.
Candles add such ambiance to a bedroom, but I’m always a bit wary of the fire hazard, so this fully glassed candle holder from IKEA is perfect.
Opposite my bed I have a vintage wash stand that has been passed down through many generations of our family. The top was badly damaged and had to be replaced long ago, but I found a French polisher that was able to source some really old timber to replace it and then I had it all restored.
Later I painted it white and now love her even more. I store blankets and cushions there when they are not on my bed.
The other angel I painted is hanging above the wash stand. This one has her wings down as opposed to one above my bed with her wings extended.
By adding some simple accessories, I was able to update my blue and white bedroom with a cottage inspired Christmas look.

Thank you Vesna. Do you know, those angels didn’t take that long to paint and were a spur of the moment project… yet I’m really loving them. I think I need to find a way to incorporate them into everyday angels. xxx

Kerryanne says
Thank you Stephanie. How sweet you are! I was a little worried about using the red, but I’m so glad I did now. 🙂
Sydne Sannito says
Where oh where did you find the red checked sheets ?
Kerryanne says
Hi Sydne, I made it. The fabric was 180 cm wide and I simply purchased 2 metres and hemmed all the edges. It worked out to be a pretty cheap seasonal sheet! 🙂
Sydne says
Thanks so much for the information

I love your bedroom. I have a bedroom in all pale cream and white in french provincial and put some “pops” of red in the room. What a wonderful look. It makes such a difference and looks so festive. Noone will will be going in the room except me, but that’s ok. It’s so enjoyable just to walk in and look.
Kerryanne says
Your room sounds so lovely Eileen. Like you, I don’t decorate for others. My home has to feel right for me and no one other than my husband will see my bedroom this Christmas, but that doesn’t matter. I’m enjoying the time I spend in there and it makes me feel very ‘Christmassy’. 🙂
susan says
This is such a sweet room, so peaceful. I love the angel and wreath.
Kerryanne says
Thank you Susan. I have to admit, I’ll be sad to take down the angel after Christmas.

Simply gorgeous! I love the soft blue paired with the reds for the season. So pretty. That angel is beautiful. My Mom loves Angels. Do you make those? I saw you painted it but wasn’t sure if you made it too. Merry Christmas! XO

I love all of the beautiful Christmas details in your bedroom, Kerryanne! The washstand is probably my favorite! I don’t think many Americans realize that it is Summer for you guys down there. I remember pictures of me as a young child sitting in front of the tree with my bikini on ha ha. So nice that you have this lovely space to retreat to. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas! XOXO
