It’s little wonder that the cottage decorating style is taking off in a big way.
Combining a mix of pretty colours, florals, stripes, and new and vintage pieces, it all combines together in an eclectic mix that says ‘cozy and comfortable’.
Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing my simple and achievable ways to incorporate the cottage look into your home in my new series….
I know that many of my readers love the pretty kitchen stoneware that I share here and on my Facebook page from companies like GreenGate, Ib Laursen, Cath Kidston etc…
But most of these items are not readily available outside Europe, which causes much angst for our cottage lovers who want to incorporate this look in their own home.
This week I’m going to share some ideas and projects for creating, thrifting and sourcing your own GreenGate styled kitchenware.
The combination of polka dots, florals and stripes evoke that cozy, relaxed feel of the cottage look, but you don’t have to buy GreenGate to achieve this look.
If your budget will stretch to one GreenGate item, you can build the rest of your look around that one piece eg. the little teapot infuser in the above photo is from Greengate, but the pretty aqua mugs were a thrift shop buy.
The mugs are made by an Australian company and were quite a score at a local Op Shop for just a few dollars each.
Try looking for stripe, floral or coloured mugs to add to your vignettes. Discount stores like K.Mart have cheaper homewares that you can add to your collection for decoration rather than use.
This look could be expanded further by using other items in this colour palette of pink and aqua… like tea towels, kitchen utensils, bowls etc.
Mix it in with lots of white stoneware and fresh flowers and you’ll achieve a pretty cottage feel.

In my next post in the ‘A Cottage Life’ series, I’ll be showing you how you can give thrift store finds a GreenGate style make-over using paint.
Happy crafting

Hello Kerryanne, that is so pretty what you have done with just a little of that beautiful Greengate crockery.
Thank you so much for showing us how, on a budget. I agree with the above commenter, your blog posts, pictures and F/B posts are so inspiring,
and a pleasure to read. Thank you for all the special effort.

Hi Kerryanne, I was looking for the pretty tin of strawberry tea from this company but dont see it…..
do you happen to see it where you purchased your products ?
thank you for your time Lorraine
Kerryanne says
Hi Lorraine, I haven’t seen any around, so maybe only available overseas. Maybe try one of the European online stores??? Good luck 🙂

Yea!!! Looking forward to the new ideas. I’ve been collecting pastel items for a long time, as well as plain white. Can’t wait to learn how to use paints on them. Thanks for sharing all your creative ideas.

Yes – finally a series for us cottage style decorators. I love the farmhouse look, but all of that burlap, ironstone, brown transferware and neutral colored everything is just not me.. Give me pastels, florals, cozy, vintagey and cottagey and I am in heaven. So looking forward to your next posts! I would love to receive your posts by email, unfortunately Google Chrome no longer accepts Feedburner 🙁

Wow, everything is so beautiful. I love the way you mixed the polka dots and flowers. It’s definitely given me the inspiration to mix patterns too. Thanks so much for linking up to our Something to Talk About Link Party. Hugs, CoCo

KerryAnne,
This is a wonderful series. I love cottage style and when I got married a few years ago I changed from all the pink and pink roses in our home to just in my kitchen and it’s my favorite room in the house. I’m looking forward to following along to learn more great ideas you share. Thank you again sooo much for linking up to our Something to Talk About Link Party and I so appreciate it with how busy you are and the big time difference too. Love for you to come on back tomorrow too. Have a great week, Lisa

Oh, Kerryanne, you are so wonderful! I am new to Greengate and assumed I would never be able to afford it or pay for shipping. And here you are telling us how to recreate the look on a budget. I also visited Shabby Fabrics after reading your post on the faux patchwork and ordered immediately. Yours is the first link party I ever visited and I love it! You are an answer to a new shabby cottager’s prayer! Thank you for everything!
