Some weeks just never go as planned.
The ‘To Do’ list has been written. . . re-written and crossed out.
I seemed to have lost the order of the ordinary every day things.
But sometimes life is just like that!
And when it gets too crazy and out of control we just have to prioritise.
So the past week may have been topsy-turvy. . .
And my blog post for Monday is now finally going up on Tuesday evening. . . but the world won’t end because I‘ve changed the order of things.
Sometimes when things get out of kilter it is easy to lose your creative mojo.
I’m sure many of you will know the feeling of ‘life gets in the way’ – too many errands to run, bills to pay and kids homework dilemmas too solve – and the list goes on…
So, how DO you retain the creative flow?
I take time out in the midst of the madness. Let go of the pressure of the to-do-list and the need for household perfection – and the guilt that may result from that – and take time for silence, for nature and for simply being with myself.
I devoted a whole chapter to this in my book Embracing the Passion, so it is something I feel is key to harnessing your creativity.
So in amongst the craziness that has engulfed our family life this past week, I took a day for myself.
A day to hide away from the world. . . to spend time in my studio alone and surround myself with beautiful craft supplies.
I managed to make a dozen handmade tea towels with free motion appliques, These will be stock for our upcoming market this weekend and even though this was indeed a work project, it was still creative therapy.
I made my studio a haven. . . . I left the phone in the house with my daughter, turned up the music and just got into the ZONE.
Sometimes we just have to do this to achieve the balance we need for creative harmony.
I’m sharing my handmade tea towels at this week’s link parties and with these friends: Inspiration Exchange, Live Laugh Rowe, The DIY Dreamer, Tutorials, Tips & Tidbits, Blissful White Wednesday, Transformation Thursday, French Country Cottage, The Vintage Farmhouse, 36th Avenue, Be Inspired Friday at Common Ground.
