Farmhouse decorating should always be a marriage between old and new. . .
The practical and simple. . .
With touches of rustic materials that evoke a warm and welcoming feeling.
My kitchen is predominantly white, so I’ve added natural and rustic farmhouse decor items as an accent.
Faded wicker baskets and woven hearts mix well with French bottles and rusty vintage kitchen implements.
I added another quick and easy element to my farmhouse kitchen this week with this French inspired storage box.
For this project I used an 8” paper mache round box and lid.
I added 3 small wooden door handles as feet to the bottom of the box and painted the base of the box (including feet) and the lid black. When it was dry, I distressed the edges with a piece of fine sandpaper for a shabby look.
The sides of the box base has been covered with this lovely French print brown paper from Wholeport. It is actually sold as wrapping paper, which comes in large sheets, but I have used it for a variety of different projects.
The back of the wrapping paper is plain brown, so I made a French graphic using 2 graphics from the Graphics Fairy and printed it onto the back of an A4 piece of the wrapping paper.
I cut out the graphic and adhered it to the lid of the box with decoupage paste.
A strand of thick jute wrapped around the rim of the lid several times adds some natural rusticity…. and the final touch is a sweet antique bronze Eiffel Tower.
Today I have the box lined with a burlap napkin and filled with yummy Kiwi fruits, but I’m sure I’ll think of a plethora of different uses for this sweet French inspired box.
I’m sharing my French farmhouse box at this week’s link parties and with these friends: Graphics Fairy, Inspiration Exchange, Live Laugh Rowe, The DIY Dreamer, Tutorials, Tips & Tidbits – Stone Gable, Blissful White Wednesday at Timewashed, Transformation Thursday, French Country Cottage, The Vintage Farmhouse, 36th Avenue, Be Inspired Friday at Common Ground.

What a clever lady you are. Thank you. This little beauty is certainly an Ei…ffel 🙂 Couldn’t resist it! It’s also very achievable. It has given me some ideas for some smaller paper mache boxes I have in my craft supplies…..somewhere. Think I need to do the clean up that you undertook last week.
