Rather than making New Year resolutions, I prefer to choose a word of the year.
This has been my practice for a few years now and I love having a specific word that I can focus on. It not only challenges me, but also allows me to be self aware.
The word I chose for 2016 is…
So how did I choose my word for 2016… well, I think it chose me.
It seemed quite appropriate. I already have a few special projects arranged for the year ahead and I know these will challenge me and take me way, way out of my comfort zone.
For the past few weeks I’ve been saying over and over “It will be an adventure”, so I feel that this is my destiny in 2016… even if it feels a little scary now!
I will weave this word into many facets of my life to gently remind me to be ‘adventurous’ in 2016… to accept challenges and not be afraid to try new ideas and experiences.
And perhaps it will lead me towards new paths I wouldn’t normally be brave enough to navigate.
I’ll be inviting this word into my daily life…
It will form part of my positive affirmations, meditation and art journaling…
And I hope it empowers me, gives me new focus and a positive feeling (doesn’t adventure sound chirpy and positive to you!).
I’m not sure where ‘adventure’ will take me this year, but I look forward to being open to all the possibilities.
Do you choose a word for the year?
If you do, I’d love to hear about it… will you share it with me?
I’d be thrilled if you left a comment with your word and if you are ready to share, maybe even why you chose it. We can do this together.
Hugs ~ Kerryanne

I believe, if you don’t mind, that I shall share your word. We currently have our house for sale and wish to downsize and simplify. I have downsized my quilting business and taken up new handwork projects. I am a new grandma and am wanting to move to a new area to be closer to that grandchild. So scary as it seems at times, I am hoping it becomes another adventure on the road of life. Happy new year, happy new adventures!

Hey Kerryanne! Happy New Year to you … Even if I’m a few days behind … Story of my life really! :0) I don’t consciously choose a word for the year but here at the Meares’ Madhouse we’ve always referred to anything new or big changes as new ‘adventures’. I Think I chose to do that quite some years ago because it puts a positive light on things that could be scary or daunting. I feel braver somehow when we have ‘adventures ‘! :0) Looking forward to sharing your adventures this year … Maybe one of them will be a play date! :0) Bear Hugs! KRIS xx

Hi Kerryanne,
This is my new word for 2016 too. With our home sold and closing at the end of this month we are moving on to a new adventure now. My husband has been looking for a new job for the past 10 months and is on a very good possibility this week for a great job so we are hoping this will come to light and we will be heading to a new job and new adventure to find a new cottage. So I love your chosen word for 2016.
Happy New Year.

Hi Kerryanne, my word for the year is encouragement! I am looking for opportunities daily to encourage with word and deed. Trusting in doing so I can use some creative ideas along the way. Happy New Year!

My word for the New Year is “Trust”. I need to trust for many reasons: Trust that I can learn techniques. Trust that the future holds many exciting things. Trust that I can reach goals I set for myself. Trust that I won’t fail, if I just take that first step. Trust means growing in my Faith, which is most important to me.
I love your site Kerryanne, and that you share so much of yourself. That takes a lot of trust, and you have been such an example to me! May you have a blessed New Year! =)

I wish you well with your “adventure” for 2016.
I know 2016 is going to be a year of many changes at work – I think my word for the year needs to be “Hope” as I really hope that things do not impact on my home life to the same extent as they did in 2015.

My word for 2016 is CONTENT.
I have a group of friends and we all choose a word. Another friend stamps them onto a vintage silver spoon, along with the year on the bowl part.
When we have our morning tea, we remember out words and contemplate them.

My word for 2016 is compassion – not only thinking people should be more compassionate (having an adult child with autism and mental retardation) but wanting myself to be more compassionate when people give us stares – to learn how to be compassionate as they might not know they are staring or not understanding that he has such a severe diagnosis…. I need to be more compassionate – my word for 2015 was kindness – same sort of idea rang true for the reverse – me being more kind towards others and learning that I needed to take every opportunity to teach about his diagnosis and what it means and why he makes noises etc….. my world revolves around being a 24/7 caregiver….. I would give my arms and legs to not have him suffer day in and day out…..
