Hello my shabbilicious friends,
If this is your first time here, welcome.
I am delighted to be a part of the “Christmas in the Country” Home Tour and Link Party 2014! I am one of over 40 decorated homes participating in this two week event from November 28th till December 12th. Please visit Creative Country Mom’s to see all the new stops on the tour each day. There is also a Holiday themed link party for the event where everyone can add their posts! Let’s enjoy a homespun, Country Christmas at www.creativecountrymom.blogspot.com!
Please come in and make yourself comfortable, as I share PART 1 of our home dressed up for the holidays… for Christmas in the Country.
Our home is actually on our business premises, which is a beachside holiday resort in NSW, Australia.
It’s a little different to what we’ve had in the past, as it is a townhouse attached to the rear of our reception/office area for the resort.
We downsized when we moved here 18 months ago, so I don’t have as many rooms to decorate these days, but that doesn’t mean we don’t go all out for Christmas.
Preparations for the Christmas season starts well in advance for our family.
First we decided on a theme and colour palette…. keeping in mind that our home is all white and neutral in a shabby/cottage/vintage style.
A few months ago we were tossing around ideas for Christmas, when The-Man-Of-The-House meekly offered a suggestion. In 25 years of marriage he has never waded into Christmas or decorating discussions… but this time he did… suggesting that he’d like to see a red Christmas.
Really, red…. not a shabby colour as such, but the women of the house could not deny him this one and only request… well, perhaps just in one room!
Our walls and furniture are white and our lounge suite is taupe, so a completely neutral and easy colour palette to add red to.
We started with a few red cushions, a thrifted table runner and a throw rug.
Strangely, we were warming to the festive feel of the red.
Next, I made a new checkered slip cover for the ottoman and purchased some red stripe and polka dot cups for our nightly hot chocolates.
The room was coming together… but it needed that something extra to make it pop….
So last weekend I grabbed a large canvas from the craft room. Spent a couple of fun hours splashing around some red paint and a few textures with stencils and stamps. Next came the hand painted white lettering… and there you have it…
…. a fun painting that was the ‘pop’ of colour
the room needed to make a statement.
While this room is not particularly large, it does have a two story high ceiling and also a two story high wall of window, making it very light and bright in there.
Red baubles were added to the garland on the spiral staircase…
And a few more pops of red with candle holders, gift wrapping, wreath bows and cushions.
The green foliage, red bows and twinkling fairy lights extend up to the second story attic rooms…
And it has a very festive feel to it now.
Join me for part 2 of my Christmas Tour on Wednesday 3rd
for the ‘Welcome Home’ tour and a touch of shabby, cottage chic Christmas.
And next Tuesday 9th for my whole house
‘Home for the Holidays’ tour.
What a fun week!
Merry Christmas,
Kerryanne

Very nice touches of red to your otherwise neutral palette, KerryAnne. I love reds, plaids and mixing them all up for the holidays, and am enjoying all the stops on this tour. I was part of day 1, so I only have a little bit of decorating still to do. 🙂 Happy Holidays!

I was just about to ask where the gorgeous canvas came from when I read that you MADE it….it’s beautiful!! And just makes the room come alive….great suggestion about using red…I just re-did my front porch for the winter and used red for accents….Thanks for the inspiration….I just have to have the courage to do a canvas myself!

The red against the neutral colours is perfect.

Kerryanne says
Thanks Toni. It definitely feels like Christmas now with all that red ‘popping’. I was worried that too much red would make it feel too hot here as our summer is already hot and humid, but it’s just the right amount. xxx

So beautiful and festive.. Gosh I love your staircase!!
Kerryanne says
Thank you Lisa. I don’t know that I love a spiral staircase, but it doesn’t take up much room, which is good in an apartment.
