When you think ‘romantic decor’ do you conjure up images of crisp white linen and lace?
Perhaps even a ruffle or two . . .
And don’t forget bouquets of beautiful roses.
Having flowers around the house makes me happy.
For a long time now, I’ve been hanging lovely linen bags full of lavender blooms around the house. I love brushing past a bag and getting that sweet whiff of lavender.
I also love roses and nearly always have a vase full in my entrance hall. I like them in my kitchen too . . . but they often get in the way of all the family activity and have in the past been knocked over.
So today I decided to make a bag just for my roses, so they too could hang on the wall . . . safe from the rigors of bustling children and over excited fur babies.
This was a simple bag using 2 pieces of white linen fabric measuring 9” x 12”.
I also ripped 2 strips of muslin measuring 24” x 2” and gathered one long edge on each piece to make two ruffles.
The ruffles were pinned to the lower edge of one of the linen fabric pieces and then sewed in place. To add some extra pizzazz, I also added some pretty pearl/muslin trim along the top edge of the first ruffle. . . this was hand stitched in place.
I sewed the panel into a bag shape, with the seam at the back.
Then I made another bag for the lining using the remaining panel of linen.
The hanger is a piece of cotton lace that was attached in the seam when I stitched the bag and lining together at the top of the bag.
A pretty bow of ripped and frayed muslin was attached to the front of the bag with a gorgeous pearl and rhinestone button.
It’s a simple but very sweet and romantic looking bag.
I tucked a small glass jar inside the bag and filled it with beautiful roses . . . they’ve added a lovely touch of colour to my kitchen today.
I’m sharing my ruffle rose bag at these fantabulous link parties this week.
